Chapter 7 bankruptcy filer is authorized user on my accounts

Postby irvine801 » Wed May 02, 2012 12:33 am

So this is what's going on. My girl is about to declare a chapter 7. She was an auth user on my Chase Citi and discover. And they are all reporting on her credit report. I have removed her from all 3 and I am awaiting a letter confirming that. Should I do anything and what should I say to the attorney? Because when the attorney pulled her credit report he saw those accounts and I said she isn't obligated for those. But I'm scared this won't be enough. Advice my fellow credit card peeps? Thanks :)

Ultimately I do not want this to affect me or my credit at all. Any advice is helpful!

I wouldn't worry. You just need to understand how credit reports work. The report is on a particular person (actually a SSN with name/address combos). During a BK, what happens is that a BK goes on credit report of a person. The person can also put all their credit obligations status to IIBK. None of this is on your credit report and therefore your score is not affected. But you need to be a bit careful. I know many card issuers pull BK reports and potentially could make a mistake. But anything that would happen would be a mistake so it is smart to remove your accounts from her report. You can put her back on once BK is finalized.

Thanks crashem. That's what I've been doing and hopefully we will wait and see what happens.
