PenFed is a pretty conservative lender but you should be okay. The word on PenFed is that they can be hard to get in with but once you do, they are good.

I was afraid of Ft. Knox as I had read that they were being difficult with people outside of Kentucky.

You can always change your BCE to BCP, but that only moves you from 2% to 3% on gas
Amex Centurion, Amex Platinum, Amex BCP 8k->24k (5/23/12), Amex TE 15k, Cap One 1.5% 15k->20k (8/7/13), CSP 25k, Chase Palladium 100k, Citibank AA 35k (AU), Firestone 1.8k->2.2k->2.4k (8/20/12), JFCU Jloc 30k, PenFed Plat Rewards 30k, SF Fire 30k, US Bank Cash+ 25k

What about the Discover open road which gives 2% back every month? The More just has it in rotating categories.

I wouldn't call Discover a lower tier card. You can call TD bank, M&T bank these are lowered tiers.

What about first starting off with the American Express Blue Cash preferred since its free for the first year? What about a gas credit card like a Exxon/Mobil Mastercard or a gas card with a credit card logo?

No BCP for me, I'm against paying annual fees for anything. I will however, call PenFed again some time today after work. I sent in my paystub yesterday, and they sent me an email saying something about some plead or getting my case reconsidered or something like that.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Just called again today, apparently they got the email on Tuesday with my paystub attached, but never saw the attachment. The person on the phone said he sent it up to the loan office to get it reconsidered. I hope it gets approved... wish me luck!

Main Card: Amex Platinum

what about the Blue cash basic card which has no annual fee. what about trying the Discover open road for a year?

what's wrong with getting a Exxon/Mobil mastercard or a gas card with a credit card logo?
