Just explained how I hit my limit 3 times since getting the card and hated paying it off before I could use it. I charged at least $1,000 and paid it off already within a month and a half. They saw that and approved me for $1,500. I was really shocked I didn't even expect an increase and if I did get one I expected maybe $750.
My cards
Chase-Sapphire-$5,000 Freedom-$3,000, Amazon rewards-$700, Slate-$600
Citi- Diamond Preferred-$4,000, Thank you-$2,500
Discover IT-$2,500
Bank of America cash rewards-$2,000
Capital one newcomer rewards-$500

Chase credit limit

Postby nolareb » Thu Aug 02, 2012 8:02 pm

Just had success with a recon call for the chase freedom card. Only approved me for the min limit of $500. Obviously plan to pay in full each month and hope to have limit increased as soon as possible. How long should I wait to ask for an increase? My goal is $1000 by six months.

I got my Freedom card a couple months ago with the low $500 credit line. I have zero debt and I've paid off my balance numerous times already, and the credit line is so low that I can't pay my rent with this card (rent is around $600). You said you called the chase lending office - is this different than the normal recon line?

Despite getting approved by Discover it and Citi Forward for healthy amounts, I got shot down by Chase Freedom.

I called the recon line and a woman said my BK (8 years old) affected the decision, as well as my not "re-establishing" myself with not just credit cards, but personal loans and car loans.

I thought it odd. I've had 3 steady credit cards since my BK I've paid 10's of thousands of dollars on time with no problems for 8 years! That's not re-establishment?

I told her I live in Chicago and have no need for a car -- which is true. I was upside down on a car loan for a lemon vehicle to the tune of $20,000+ and was advised to file BK to get from under it. Of course, credit cards were swept up in the BK, as well.

She pulled from Trans Union, which always displays the worst of everyone. (Why do they exist!? ;)

I'll wait for the letter, look over my credit report, and try the recon line again, perhaps asking for a lower CL that normal.

Also, will the decline from Chase show on my credit and can that persuade others to not extend me credit?

Any tips/advice?

It does not show up as you being declined on the report. The only thing that will show is the pull from them.

Called the recon line and was reconsidered. Approved! Happy as it's a great, great card.
