How to get a credit card after debt consolidation?

Postby ERoberts » Wed Apr 25, 2012 7:55 pm

About 2 years ago I consolidated 4 charge cards and 4 major credit cards (MC and Visa from Citi and Capital One). I have two more years until all the debt is paid off (will pay off before the 2 years).

Now with a well paying job that requires me to travel, I would like to have a credit card for emergencies or to charge until I am reimbursed by my company. I have a HSBC Discover, however I would like a MasterCard or Visa.

My credit score is 720 and I have tried applying for Citi, Capital One, Amex with no luck. :( Any ideas of what cards I can get or what steps I should take to get approved for a card after debt consolidation? Many thanks for your help!!

You should plan to have your debt paid off before having anyone consider you for a new card, especially those which you put into debt consolidation.
