My Experience with Citibank

Postby bmw1990Z » Tue Apr 17, 2012 3:21 pm

I thought my experience with my Citi Forward card might be useful for others who are new/establishing credit, college students, or those who also have a citi card.

I opened my Citi Forward for students card in 2011. I was approved for a 0% interest rate for six months and after that 20.99%!

I always paid my balance in full until last month when I charged plane tickets to my account. I have paid half and plan to pay the other half next month, far more than what the minimum payment is. This morning I logged on to my account to see my APR had changed from 0% to 20.04% which was strange considering it was past when the APR was scheduled to change.

I called the number on the back of the card and answered a few questions before being put on hold for about ten minutes. I was finally transferred to a senior account analyst who asked about my situation. I informed her that I would like my APR heavily reduced or I would be canceling my card after paying my remaining balance. To my surprise, she agreed the rate was astronomical considering my blemish free credit history and lowered it to 11.40%. While not great, this is far better than 20.99%! I asked if this was the best she could do and advised I would still most likely cancel this card after paying my balance.

She then said I was eligible for a credit line increase because of the amount of time I was a cardholder and my payment history without having to do a hard inquiry. My credit line was doubled! While this phone conversation took 20 minutes, I am satisfied with the results and encourage others with similar issues to try as I did.

Chase: Freedom (rotating, 5%); Amazon (Amazon.com, 3%); PriorityClub (IHG hotels, 5 points/dollar); Sapphire (not in use).

*All cards are registered with PriorityClub IDine program for 8 points/dollar at participating restaurants.

Thanks irvine801... I wasn't sure what a good rate was but I knew 20% wasn't it!! Do you think I could be approved for Citi Diamond Preferred? My credit limit went from $1800 to nearly $5000 in just 7 months!

For sure. Yeah if they did a cli for that much... I was roughly at a 650 FICO when I opened my Citi account. Funny thing about it is when I applied it said error and I totally forgot about it then I check my credit report with my discover credit score tracker and I saw a Citi account on my report. I thought it was funny! But yeah my rate with my Chase and Citi are about the same. (Aka horrible) Mydiscover is my plastic Apr beast :)

Sadly.. I'm not sure. I think it does have preferred event seating and a concierge service. I'll have to look into it.
