What if I have no credit score?

Postby dude5756 » Mon Apr 16, 2012 12:08 pm

Current college student. If I applied for a credit card but got denied because I have no recent credit score or activity, will this adversely affect my credit in the future?

How soon can I reapply with another creditor? I was silly and applied for a card I knew I probably wasn't going to get and will apply for a more student-oriented card through my bank now.

You want to keep applications for credit to a minimum. What card did you apply for? I would find a student card you are likely to be accepted for and apply for that or get a secured credit card to build up 6 months history or so. Then apply for a real card or increase the limit on the one you received.

I did the same thing last year. It's really not a huge deal when you are starting out as you need to start somewhere. Most student cards are easy to get as long as you are indeed a college student, hold down a somesort of income etc. See my post about citibank in this section of the forum.
Cards in my wallet:
-Citi Forward Card for College Students-July 2011
-American Express Platinum Delta Skymiles--July 2013
