new forum topic

Postby bisbicos » Mon Feb 20, 2012 11:33 am

Hey guys I've been doing alot of research here on this website site. I love all the advice and expertise. I was thinking maybe the moderators could add a new section to the forum for "credit union credit cards" the only credit union that gets mentioned here with a good credit card seems to be Penfed.

I've been researching alot of credit unions and have come across the NASA federal credit union. Its free to join and they offer a 2% cash back credit card. https://www.nasafcu.com/credit-cards/

I would like to hear about other good credit union credit cards on this website

I cant really help hear. I heard mcu has a pretty low interest rate.

But I have a question if we are already talking about credit unions.

Why would anyone open a credit card with a credit union, from the little research I made the big banks offer way better deals. Are the approval conditions easier for union credits? Otherwise I see no point in having their credit cards..

My credit union does not offer any kind of rewards card. But the one visa they do offer has a 7.75% variable apr. Thats the lowest i've ever seen. I don't use the card very much but i know that if i ever have a big emergency that i couldn't possibly pif then i can use that card and get hit with the least amount of interest possible (especially when the rewards cards i have mostly have interest rates close to or above 20%).

Not to mention i feel very comfortable that i can have that card for a long time and not worry about being screwed over by the bigger companies. i can always walk into my local branch and get my questions answered by people i know and that know me.
Primary Cards:
Chase Sapphire Preferred (General Use)
Chase Freedom (For 5% Categories)
AmEx Blue Cash Preferred (Groceries/Gasoline/Dept. Stores, If not Freedom category)
Credit Union Visa (low APR)

Its true not all credit unions offer great rewards. But some do, like the 2% NASA credit union card I found. Or Penfed's 5% on gas. I think its a topic worth discussing

I'm not sure I understand how credit union works. Dont you have to be employed by Nasa to be a member of that card?
