Chase authorization for credit checks?

Postby Phenom34 » Fri Nov 25, 2011 8:47 pm

Ive had a chase account for many years and have gotten the identity protection. I do like it because I have had minor theft twice and they took care of it no questions asked.

In the mail I got a request asking for permission to monitor credit files for my identity protection.

It is necessary to continue identity protection services. Should I authorize this? They also mention that they will provide personalized credit reports and scores in the service.

Wouldnt this hurt my credit to have them continue monitoring it?

Well I'm not sure about the Chase Identity Protection in particular, but my big question is how were they able to protect your identity if they already weren't monitoring your credit reports?!? Nonetheless, to answer your question, having identity protection does not hurt your credit because it uses soft inquiries.

If i understand your question correctly, you want to know if credit / identity monitoring service is going to have an effect on your credit score?
If so, then the answer is absolutely no. Normally they will ask for your permission because they have to access your personal information.

JohnB indicated a good point, how did they monitor it all this time without your approval? Or maybe they updated the privacy agreement.
