Hypothetical Question | Discontinued CC and Credit Score

Postby mooimabear » Thu Aug 18, 2011 12:22 pm

Hi everyone,

A question just hit my mind and I figured why not ask the experts on this forum ;) . Now I understand that closing a credit card has adverse side effects on your credit score (more or less depending on the age of the account), but what happens when your credit card is discontinued? I'm still new to the CC game so I don't really know if such a thing happens as "discontinuing a credit card," I'm just assuming it does. But say your credit card issuer (Master Card, Visa, Chase, AMEX, BofA, Discover etc...) decides to discontinue a particular card for whatever reason, would THEIR decision to discontinue the card effect YOUR credit score? Looking forward to your responses!

No impact at all, they might even transfer your account history into a new account which was the case for me when my Northwest Airline card was discontinued and converted into the new Flex Card. It is still reported on my CR as the same account. Additionally there’s nothing wrong with closing a card. In the short term, that card will continue to contribute to your overall history for the next 10 years.
Hope this help.

I had a credit card called First card. they were from the boon docks. had it from 1995 to 2001, because my account was still opened they had to do something, another bank took over they were called Bank 1, this is what would happen.

let's say you have a citizens 1 credit card, they go out of business another bank would take over.
