I wrote another post about my balances I have on my cards at Bank of America. I really am not happy with how they've been treating me and I know only one person complaining is not a sound argument but I've heard the same thing about them a number of times in the mainstream media too. :(

Which company is known to treat its customers the fairest? I don't understand. I thought customers should come first. We are no different than customers of a restaurant or a store. The banks that don't treat us good should try and remember this.

American Express has had the highest customer satisfaction rankings the last few years. I believe this is why we are seeing their marketshare expand. They do tend to strive and go that extra mile for you to set themselves apart from the other issuers they are competing with.

Amex w/o a doubt is the best!!! :D

Best customer service by far and no other c.c. has been around as long as they have and consistently had QUALITY service and products like them.

Besides American Express, Diners Club is known for exceptional customer service. The drawback is they only offer two cards and both carry an annual fee.

I like Discover. Capital One seems to be the one most people complain about.

I agree with other posters: AMEX is king and Cap One is on the lower end.

The type of card you have makes a difference. Low-level cards don't get the same service as Signature Visa or World Mastercards.

I think Discover's customer service revamp is great. They only provide US-based, English speaking reps. No hard accents to decipher.

I would imagine Barclays would have great customer service in the direction of AMEX, though I've never had a card with them.

I've had good luck with Chase and Discover customer service. Discover has been good to me with credit limit increases. Amex has good CS, but they refuse to give me a limit increase.

This is an interesting chart I found a few days ago:


It shows Amex as having the fewest complaints, followed (not that closely) by US Bank, Chase, and Discover. BofA, Citi, and CO are a bit worse.

Wells Fargo, Merrill Lynch, and a few others are not included.

The data are in the number of complaints per $1 billion of transactions in 2012. The disparities are pretty big. There are some mitigating factors, though. CO cardholders generally have lower spending than Amex ones, so $1 billion in CO spending is spread out over a lot more people, increasing the potential for complaints.
