Credit card application asks for identity verification - Is this a good sign?

Postby sleepysentry » Sat Mar 12, 2011 4:29 pm

I recently applied for Citi Forward for College Students and received a message saying my application was pending further approval. I got a letter in the mail today asking me to verify my address and send in a copy of my Social Security card to verify my identity.

Is this a good sign that I'm going to be approved? I figured Citi wouldn't go through this hassle unless I was going to be approved, and I wasn't rejected outright when I submitted the application. This is my first time ever applying for a credit card so I don't know what to expect.

It probably does not mean anything except that they cannot connect you with the address you provided. They are first trying to verify you are who you say you are. Once that is done they will make a determination on whether to issue you credit. I don't think it is a good sign or a bad sign.

Yeah encountering that is not uncommon if you have recently moved or something else doesn't match up with your application and credit report.

In your case since if it is your first time ever applying for a credit card that probably has something to do with it.
