Mastercard are payment NETWORKS.. and discover and amex are actual issuers.. Which if I'm correct then I can see why he said master card.

In the U.S. Discover card is a payment network & issues it own cards & also issues co-branded cards.

In the U.S. Hsbc has a Discover Card. It says HSBC powered by Discover. I think other banks have this card. It uses the Discover Card Network.

Well, this morning I got the old routine again. Despite handing over my PC Financial card, I got heckled to use a WalMart. I then went into a bit of a speech on how I was turned down from Walmart and hence was now giving my money to a competing card etc. I was asked for other questions as to how did that occur, and so on, which caused me to go into more detail on my guesses, and my current equifax/transunion reports, etc.

At least the entire line-up behind me found that very amusing and many people got some good laughs, including another Walmart worker within ear-shot.

I'm sorry, but if I keep getting god-damned hassled every time I try to buy something there, then I will tell them exactly WHY I don't have the card. If they don't like it, then don't ask me. I'm not the one putting a gun to their heads either.

At least my SEARS card arrived today. Though 1-2% cashback on a 30% APR just doesn't seem to motivate me. I don't mind the extra credit-rating boost though. After all, if Walmart rejected me, then it must be pretty damn bad and in need of repairs... (*caugh).

That's the problem. The people 'harassing' you are lower end employees that do not have a choice but to do so. They're also not going to remember your face the next time you are there - in a typical 8 hour shift a cashier in our relatively small store checked out well over 200 people. Just say no and go on with life. Seriously, this is why working in the service industry is terrible - your fecal matter doesn't smell any better or any less then the poor soul manning that cash register that has a manager breathing down his neck to get X many applications per day or lose his pennies above minimum wage job. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but to give them a speech is both rude and like talking to a brick wall.

Wow, you must be the life of a party, bragging about your credit superiority at Walmart 8-)
