September 2017 Garden/App Planning Club

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Fri Sep 01, 2017 2:38 pm

Currently available:
Aviator 60k. Improved bonus.

Coming soon:
BofA Premium Rewards: Apparently it offers a full 1 cpp for cash back, not just travel credits. The $100 airline credits seem to come with some restrictions, though.
Barclaycard Uber: Likely a Visa, but no other details.
NFCU Amex: Rumored to be some sort of 3/2/1 bonus category card.

Rumored:
USAA 2.5% to become available in all states.
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE
Taxes/Misc: SPG

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

In the same place as last month. Have a couple of cards on the horizon:

Business

*Looking at the Chase Ink Bold for my business to really take things to another level I originally wanted the Ink Cash for no annual fee but it was difficult to find with no foreign transaction fees so going to have to pay another annual fee since no other card offers it for free (I think???)
*Also looking at another business card with AMEX as I'm not currently happy with my SimplyCash Business and not getting my worth out of it.

Personal
*Also on the personal level is the Hilton Amex. Not sure if I want the regular or the Surpass but I stay at the Hilton quite a bit in addition to Marriott so make sense to get it.
*Not sure what to do with my Marriott since I only stayed in one once this year so far (in Spain) but it helps in Balance transfers
*Also torn on my AMEX Gold Delta. I'm strictly loyal to Delta and all affiliates (but looking into American Airlines) but it has my highest limit and have had it for a while. I get 5x the points on my Platinum and I don't know what else to do with it. Maybe some can suggest something.

So at this point I'm trying to get rid of some of the annual fees (Platinum, Delta, and Marriott) but willing to pay to gain some advantages.

This will be a hell of a September :lift:
Wells Fargo Platinum 2.100 (5/2011-cld 7/12/14)
AmEx Platinum (6/12)
Barclays Apple (6/12)
AMEX Gold Delta (5/13)
Marriott Rewards (7/14)

My credit score
EQ: unknown
EX: 776
TU: 774

No real change since last night. Contemplating the Star Trek card from the NASA credit union again, but not yet convinced that I want to pay an AF for a card with few real benefits beyond appealing to my inner trekkie.

A "flight cash" United/Chase card seems to be in the works...

Yeah...it doesn't look like a good value...

Better designs than the Shatner Priceline card, though.

Not liking the earn rate? Other reasons? Blue for Business looks better.

I didn't even know that was out there! I agree it looks like a mediocre card--definitely not worth an AF. The hard core types will pay it though just for the privilege
Sapphire Reserve: travel & dining
Blue Cash Preferred: groceries & gas
Freedom: 5% cats
Double Cash: everything else

NFCU Amex is live.

Possibly in response to the new United card, Amex is speeding up the launch a no-AF Delta card.

Yeah not liking the cash back on it and it's pretty much stagnant in my wallet so looking to move on from it. The cash back series isn't just cutting it. I many look into the Blue for Business. Thanks for the heads up.

I wish a 2x MR card was available as a personal card...even with little or no bonus. With a minimum cash value of 1.25 cpp via Schwab redemptions, I could have a permanent minimum 2.5% cash rate with the likely upside of airline transfers.

I have gotten decent travel redemptions, but my travel is slowing down and a 2.5% cash floor would be a bit comforting when I'm paying processing fees of up to 2.3% on tax payments.

Amex Delta Blue is live.

10k/$500/3 months
2x on dining and Delta purchases, 1x elsewhere
20% off in-flight food, pre-purchased food, alcohol, and headsets

2.7% FTF
No AF

No free checked bag
No reduced fee for SkyClub access

Keep in mind that, while they are often devalued, SkyMiles don't expire. Getting this card in an effort to keep miles from expiring would be pointless.

There's not much to interest people who qualify for better cards, but possibly a good no-AF way to join Amex and a no-AF PC option for people who want Amex Offers or would make occasional qualifying in-flight purchases on Delta flights.

I had been quiet for a while, but was looking to do some BTs, and I think I'm starting to hit my limits. I got a Citi Diamond Preferred ($7900) and followed up with a targeted AAdvantage offer right after and only got a $1500 limit. I also signed up for the Amex ED Cash and only got $1K (I have $39K on my Hilton Surpass card), so I'll probably be moving most of that credit line after the 60 days is up. I got the $150 back after $500 spend, which 2 phone bills will cover easily, then I'll add my wife as an AU and that will be our gas/grocery card.

My wife hasn't had much activity since getting the CSR last year. However, we went to Home Depot this weekend to get some stuff to build a firepit and we were told that you can have up to 3 HD credit cards (we already had one). The offer was for $25 off our purchase, so we figured why not. We literally get approved and the cashier next to us says the offer went up to $50, so the manager came over and gave us the rest! I guess we picked a good time to go out... The $50 covered most of the tools we picked up, so it worked out really well.
