CLI after increased spending?

Postby kcm7 » Sun Aug 13, 2017 4:52 pm

I know it's a pretty common theory that issuers will raise your credit limit if they see you spending more, but has anyone had this happen?

I just logged into my Barclaycard account to find they'd raised my limit from $6,500 to $8,500 after two solid months of spending way too much (remodeling).
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

It seems like you just did.

I have always thought this would make sense, but can't really say I've expressly experienced it. Even to the point... I recently applied to SP CLIs on my by Citi cards (DC and Prestige). DC limit was already pretty significantly lower. Had been spending TONS of money on the DC and not much if any on the Prestoge. I applied for increases for both. DC first because I wanted the increase on that one more than the other. Got $1200 increase on DC and $8000 on Prestige.
Amex - BCP, Platinum, Business Gold
BoA - BankAmericard Cash Rewards
Chase - Freedom, CSP, RC, Ink Plus
Citi - DC, Prestige
Discover - It

Chase: No auto CLIs despite lots of spend and a once-modest Chase-wide CL. Global limit presumably reached when Hyatt brought me to 50% of then-reported income.
Amex: Decent SLs, a requested CLI, and reallocated limits have meant a CL has never been stressed. No autos.
Barclaycard: One auto CLI at 20 months on Sallie after my spend had cooled off. Nothing at 6 or 12 months like others report despite regular use.
Discover: Joint account means no autos, and requested CLIs are a bit of a hassle on the phone. If I've been using it a lot, when I log in I will occasionally get a "contact us about increasing your limit" message.
Citi: No autos, but one SP CLI.
Synchrony: A $1.2k semi-toy card got a small CLI at two or three months with light use.
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE
Taxes/Misc: SPG

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card
