Weird: Billing-address bug w/ Cap 1 and Barclaycard

Postby kcm7 » Tue Dec 13, 2016 12:34 pm

While doing some online Christmas shopping (on sites I shop on all the time with cards I use online all the time), my go-to card (Barclaycard Arrival) kept getting rejected, due to a supposed mismatch between the billing address I'd keyed in and the address on my account. I tried my Cap One Quicksilver -- which was also rejected for the same reason.

So I log into online banking for both cards and realized my billing address was wrong on both cards! Under "street address" it showed my apartment number and under my the "apartment number" field, it had my street address. They'd gotten flipped for some reason.

I figure there has to be some kind of bug on the issuers' side. Because (1) I'd been using both these cards regularly online up until last week no problems; (2) this very same issue had occurred several months ago with the Quicksilver and I KNOW I corrected it.

Anyway, was curious to see if this was a widespread bug anyone else had encountered.
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

I haven't had that happen on any of my credit card or banking accounts but I seem to remember my address information got transposed between the address fields on some online retailers' profiles, which caused a mismatch when I tried to check out a few times in the past. Like you said, it's probably a software glitch with the issuers online forms but it seems like it would be fairly widespread - especially if you corrected it in the past and it still shows up wrong.

I have a CapOne Venture card, but have not experienced any mailing address problems.

Had to laugh.

I just had Barclaycard alert me to an online purchase due to fraud risk (some jeans I bought from a major clothing retailer). What was funny is that I'd navigated through to the store via Barclaycard's RewardBoost to get some extra rewards on the purchase. I mean, if it had been a thief, they'd have to be the most courteous thief ever to log me in and then navigate me to RewardBoost to get me 5 miles per dollar.

That's pretty funny.

And... it happened again. Just had my Barclaycard rejected online. So I log in, and sure enough the apartment # and street address had been transposed again in my profile. Customer service has no idea how that could have happened. Just checked Capital One and the same thing happened. These banks must continually roll out updates that are switching these data fields.
