Missed credit card payment credit score effect

Postby Suitelife » Fri Nov 26, 2010 12:28 pm

I have a missed credit card payment by a few days. What will this do to my credit score? And let's say it was a missed payment that was later, like by weeks, what would that do to my credit score?

Perhaps nothing if you call the bank right away and are very nice and explain the oversight. If you were only a few days late or maybe even a week or two, they might let it slide and not report it as late. You'll have to have been a good customer with a reliable payment history, though. It's worth a try.

If not, it shouldn't do much assuming you have a decent history to begin with.
American Express: Blue Cash Preferred (groceries, 6%; gas, department store, 3%); Gold Delta SkyMiles (Delta Air Lines, 2 miles/dollar, free checked bag).
US Bank: Cash+ (utilities, phone, internet, restaurant, 5%; drugstores, 2%).
FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (everything, 2%); Fidelity Visa (everything, 1.5%).
Chase: Freedom (rotating, 5%); Amazon (Amazon.com, 3%); PriorityClub (IHG hotels, 5 points/dollar); Sapphire (not in use).

*All cards are registered with PriorityClub IDine program for 8 points/dollar at participating restaurants.

I'm pretty sure you need to be more than 30 days late for it to be reported on your credit report.

Yes, a few days means nothing. 30 days is bad but even then many banks won't report you.

A 30 days late payment includes 1 through 30 days late. Therefore a 1 day late payment is classified as 30 days late. A bank can report that at their discretion.

It stays in your CR for 7 years. The older it gets, the less impact, granted you are not missing payments anymore.

A missed credit card payment will hurt your credit score more if your score is higher to begin with, like in the 800s.
Stop talking crap about him!
