Is Capital One a good credit card?

Postby Michigan27 » Sun Nov 14, 2010 4:14 pm

Hi
I am a university student and have been receiving letters from Capital One to apply for their platinum mastercard. I currently have a Comerica Visa Platinum card (which I think is much harder to get than the Capital One credit card) and quite frankly I am looking for a rewards card, so I am considering Discover More or Chase Freedom (although i agree it is hard to get one as long as I am a student!!), but still I ask do you consider applying for Capital One a good idea? My younger brother who didn't have any credit history before was able to get the Capital One card so I shouldn't have a problem there. However do you think I should wait and directly apply for a higher card (Chase or Discover or Amex)? I am really trying to build a solid credit history, any ideas are welcome..

I'm not a Capital one user myself but feel the same way. I think Capital One is a good credit card for those starting out and rebuilding credit but that's about it. There are too many cards with better benefits and customer service that good credit will get you.

Capital One is looked down upon in the credit card world. Get a visa through a brick and mortar bank then in 6 to 8 months get a AMEX or Discover to round you out. Stay away from low end credit companies in general.
