Your favorite "grandfathered" card?

Postby kcm7 » Mon Oct 10, 2016 9:57 am

Do you have any cards that aren't available anymore to new applicants?

I was just thinking about my no-fee Barclaycard Arrival -- double miles on dining and travel (my two biggest expenses) and no annual fee. And easy rewards redemption with a bonus (albeit a smaller one -- used to be 10%, back in the good old days). I believe that now only the $89 version is available to new applicants.

Anyone else get grandfathered into a card that you're still holding onto and nobody else can get?
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

1. Prestige with Admirals access (for 9 more months)
2. Sallie Mae
3. Arrival
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE
Taxes/Misc: SPG

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

I have a Citi Dividend Amex 5% cash back card. However, the cash back is not unlimited.

Sallie, Arrival, Aviator with 10k renewal, Wyndham with 15k/18k renewal...a lot of these cards are from Barclaycard and still good.

Citi's had several Forward and Dividend nerfs.

JP Morgan Select. Palladium Lite.

AMEX Zync. Because MF'ers can't get it!

Merrill Lynch Merrill +. The bull is very cool... (TFIC).

Forgot to mention...Diner's Club (Elite or Premiere or both)...since they can't be had anymore and they gave out insane credit limits. Too bad it's no longer a hidden TL.

Sallie Mae!!

I got my app in just in time before they closed it to new applicants. I would have been satisfied enough to just have a gas card, but (as I was hoping) Walmart and Target count for groceries with it. I make a point of maxing out the grocery category every month, even it if means buying gift cards. I'll be sad when it inevitably gets force-PC'd or nerfed for current cardholders.

No-AF Aviator is open to apps again if you browse cards on the Barclaycard site.
