Enlighten me on oldest account

Postby JonE » Fri Sep 02, 2016 11:22 pm

I have a Chase Freedom, my oldest account by a month (Care Credit was opened soon after in 2014). I could decide to PC it to an Unlimited at some point but would that affect oldest account status? Or would it just change over to the CFU? (total newbie question I concede, but I couldn't figure this one out, and couldn't find any reasonable information).
Wallet: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Chopping Block: Synchrony
Future: TBD

You'll keep the history. The rewards will change.

I don't know they will determine rewards on recent and pending transactions, though. I suspect a determined MSer could not go back and forth between Freedom and Unlimited to get a dozen different $1,500 quarterly bonus caps.
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt, Arrival
May close or PC: Prestige, BrooksBros

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech

A product change doesn't change the open date of the account.

That said there are creditors that perform a "product change" by closing the existing account and opening a new account. Those are not actually product changes. Chase isn't one of them though.

How are you searching? First hit on a site restricted Google search (just add site:creditcardforum.com to your keywords to search this site using Google) for this site had a post form someone talking about a Chase product change and retaining history. Product changes are a fairly common topic on other sites as well.
