September 2016 Garden Club/Cult

Postby JonE » Thu Sep 01, 2016 10:47 am

Same story, different month.

No new applications, just letting what I have grow. Probably won't acquire any new credit for the rest of the year until weill into 2017. Really don't see anything that's a need at this point.
Wallet: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Chopping Block: Synchrony
Future: TBD

I can't seem to stop applying, myself.

I'm really not sure what I applied for anymore!

JK. I did get a pre approval for a Nationwide CC in the mail. Apparently they have a max $75 fee on BT's which could be useful for any BT over ~$4,000 as it would beat out the majority 2% fee offers I typically received.

A niche use but useful for keeping any balances I'd rather have tucked away in one place.

No plans to app for anything this month. Just can't believe it's September already!

I never plan to app for anything but somehow it happens

This month is time for trying a cli with amex but I honestly don't care much about it

There is nothing I want that I can get. CSR would interest me but that's well over a year out and amex plat which I have is basically the same.

Nothing much appeals if anything I'd trim a few. I never use my Blisspay but I don't really want to.get rid of it.

I wasn't planning on applying for anything in August, but did try for the CSR and got denied for 10/24. On the bright side, I wasn't hit with the "membershit" fee lol. Then I saw a link for 75,000 HHonors points on the Amex card, so picked that up (and I'm still waiting for the card). Looking to use those points for my honeymoon next year. We're looking to do a cruise in Hawaii, but I'd like a couple nights on land to do stuff (Pearl Harbor, etc). I may pick up the Citi version if the 75k offer is still around after I hit the min spend on the Amex. That would put me around 200,000 HHonors points.
Main Cards:
Amex: Surpass
Chase: Hyatt

Sock drawer Cards:
Amex: HHonors, MB Plat
Chase: Amazon.com Rewards, Freedom
Citi: Macy's Amex, Simplicity, ThankYou
Citizens Bank: Cash Back Plus World
Discover: it
Elan: Bank Rewards
Synchrony: PayPal Extras

755 Eq (12/16)|748 TU (12/16)|726 Ex (1/17)

This month I will PC my PRG to Green--back where I started. I would close it's my oldest account at this point. I suppose $95/yr is a lot to pay for sentimental reasons but it is what it is...

No new apps planned for the rest of the year at this point.
American Express (2005): Green & Blue Cash Everyday
Chase: Freedom & UA Club USAA: Signature Visa & American Express
Discover it Bank of Hawaii Hawaiian Airlines WEMC Synchrony Sam's MC
Navy FCU Platinum Visa Citi Double Cash & AT&T Access MC

Generally speaking I'm a big fan of closing unused cards. To me there's no point in cards sitting in a drawer for long periods.

Of course, my Discover has been in the drawer most of this year with the exception of the dining quarter. But it's my oldest card, and so, I hang on to it. Plus they've been good with limit and APR. Just a shame the categories have been kind of disappointing. I'm hoping they drop the category thing at some point and just make it an all around useful card

No apps planned for the rest of 2016.

First Tech and UNFCU are moving towards the bottom of my list. I'm in Canada and many terminals are Internet-enabled. Amex acceptance is limited, but I've used it, and I've had no trouble using Prestige or CSP. I just have to sign a lot of paper slips. My perceived need for a true PIN card has diminished.

I've not tried Arrival or Discover.
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt
May close or PC: Prestige, Arrival, BrooksBros
AA Platinum converting into Costco

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
Letting new accounts cool off since May

I think I have too many cards as it is.

The next card I go for is going to have to be really big to draw me out of this garden.

BoA Better Balance $12,000
Amex Every Day $24,000
Discover It $19,000

Barclay Arrival WMC $10,000
Cap One QuickSilver WMC $7,200
WF Cash back Visa Sig $11,000

Still gardening. Got VERY close to apping for CSR, but deferred for now.

Hoping my shortsale (completed in Jun 2010 but initiated in Aug 2009) will start dropping off.

RV plans deferred until next year. Thinking about spending some of the :money: I'd saved for that on a paved driveway and a bathroom upgrade.
