Minor Credit Card networks

Postby charged » Sun Aug 21, 2016 9:15 pm

We all know of the big 4: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Stores often have pictures of these card logos on the door to show that they are accepted there. Sometimes bigger retailers like my supermarket show these as well as other logos of Maestro, Starr, Diner's Club, and others. Are these credit card networks also? If they are just the issuing company and the network is one of the big 4 then why bother listing it?

Maestro is an international brand of MasterCard
Diners Club is under Discover in the US and runs off of MasterCard internationally I believe (not sure if I'm remembering that correctly. Starr I believe is the same for VISA as Maestro is for MasterCard. They are some form of international payment system and a conponent of how ATMs work I believe. The other one you might see is JPN which is a Japanese payment network.
Amex - BCP, Platinum, Business Gold
BoA - BankAmericard Cash Rewards
Chase - Freedom, CSP, RC, Ink Plus
Citi - DC, Prestige
Discover - It
