My Garnet Discover card is peeling so I requested a New York Skyline one just now. Should be an improvement.
Current cards: BankAmericard CR, BankAmericard BBR, Citi Double Cash, Chase Freedom, AmEx BCE, Discover It

Hmm, tough call. Until the last year or so my Discover It card would have made 1st place hands down. I used to have the black design with the orange lettering and I quite liked it. They sent me the Light Blue, textured Discover It version when they updated to EMV though so I thought, "Meh, I'll use this for awhile and switch back in a few months." Then they discontinued the classic black and orange design I liked so much. Grrr!

1) That said though, I think I still like the Discover It the best and if I didn't have the blue version, I'd get one of their other solid colored versions and probably still like it better than my other cards. I liked the non-branded, black and orange the best, but I do still quite like the Discover It line of designs. So number 1 still goes to Discover, but not as overwhelmingly as if I still had the black and orange card.

2) Number 2 for me would be the CSP. I like the deep, dark blues and clean, simple design. I also didn't expect to like the 'heft' of the metal as much as I do, but it is nice. I almost like it better than the Discover It design and if I used it more often or liked the card as much as I like the Discover It I could see growing to like the design better too.

3) I think for 3rd place I'd go with my Target Red store card. IMO it's every bit as well designed as a regular store card and it's quite a bit different, in a good way, than my other cards.

4) 4th place would go to my BofA Cash Rewards card that's the Human Rights Campaign branded card. I like their navy and yellow logo well enough.

5) For slot 5 I'd go with the Citi Double Cash. It's a nice card enough card I guess and blue and green are two of my favorite colors...but though I love blue and green on their own, I actually don't like them that much side by side, and thus it's not higher on the list.

6) 6th place is the Chase Freedom. I'm surprised so many people like the design. I don't really care for it at all. It's not a very good shade of blue IMO and I don't care for the 'freedom' font. Compared to my Discover It, Citi DC, and Chase CSP, it also feels a bit dated by having the CC numbers and other info on the front. The others have moved toward back placement and that feels like the more contemporary trend.

7) Last place is my US Bank 1, 2 3, Kroger branded rewards card. It's my least favorite card to use and my least favorite design. It's not hideous or anything, and actually it comes close to edging out the Freedom in design preference, but it's a bit atypical in a way that leaves me scratching my head trying to decide if I liked it. If I did use it regularly I could see it growing on me, but instead it's permanently sock drawered.

I really like JCB Marukai's appearance. The gold checkerboard is subtle enough to avoid flashiness, and provides a nice backdrop for the artsy flowers, which look almost like they were hand painted on. I don't like the font much though.

CSP gets love for the metal core but I like the shading of the blues too. It's a nice look when the light hits it. I was annoyed when a cashier swiped it too hard and scratched it.

I don't have the Marvel card but those are cool designs too.

So, I'll play.

1 - JP Morgan Select. Simple elegance :)

2 - American Express Zync. AMEX, ya shouldn't have let this one die. Shoulda been enhanced, so much potential... :(

3 - Merrill Lynch Merrill +. That silver bull on the front just screams "money" ;)

Is there some asset minimum for Merrill+? Or people just think there is? :ppp

Nope, no asset minimum for the Merrill+. You may be thinking of the Accolades card, which did have a minimum of $350K IIRC. The Merrill+ is to Accolades what the JP Morgan Select is to the Palladium...a poor man's also ran card!
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!

I wonder if they've run out of those post-Orlando...

Are there any other Discover designs you do like and are considering? I might try the mixed tape or beach next.

I've seen a few I do like, but won't worry about replacing them until the current card wears out. I may have to replace Chase Freedom soon, but don't suppose there are any other design choices.

I remember Amex's Blue Cash commercials from when I was far too young to care or know anything about credit cards. I don't know if they had the BCE and BCP then; perhaps it was Blue or something similar. I just remember thinking a see-through card was really cool. Plus the blue square in the middle was flashy. If I had to rank the cards I have now, I'd go with:

1) Discover - I've had the mix tape design for a while now and I still like it. It gets the most comments, but also a lot of double takes from confusion to be fair. I also like the standard it design variations. The copper was cool (at least before EMV, not sure if it looks the same now). My wife recently got the new pink one and she loves it.

2) Amex ED - I agree with CarefulBuilder's "snowy" comment. The cool thing about it is it's clear, so I think it would look better if it were just all clear. It has definitley aged the worst of any of my cards, but I do get comments on it. Once a cashier stopped and waived other employees over to look at it. Okay it was at a Taco Bell, but still.

3) Banana Republic Visa - it's nothing impressive but it's just a clean, simple silver card with Banana Republic on it. I really only list it here to note I like it better than my last pick...

4) Sallie Mae - it may be hideous but it's a great rewards card. I'll happily put up with a card that's even uglier than my debit cards and suck all the value out of it I can while it lasts

I knew they were different cards, but can't keep track of the details of some of them. Many private banking cards seem to have a fairly short lifespan before they're overhauled, and other than Palladium I can't think of any that have really become popular and drawn customers/spend away from Platinum/Prestige/Ritz.

Then again, more people have $250k in investments for Palladium than the (alleged) $10m minimum for Merrill Octave. There must be a tiny number of customers for some cards.

I think Schwab took the smart route. If you can't beat the giants in the premium CC game, partner with one of them.

Also, I ordered a Beach Discover to replace my uglier-than-the-picture Spruce.
Love: IHG, Platinum, Sallie Mae, AA Plat, CSP
Like: Discover, ED, BCE, Hyatt, Arrival, Freedom
Might drop: BrooksBros, Prestige (Costco PC?)
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when
