They really rub the "want to be your main card" thing in with their redemption thresholds on some of their main products such as Arrival+ and Cashforward. $100 to redeem on Arrival+, $50 on Cashforward. For the former, 5k in spending, for the latter, 3k and some change. That's a lot of spend, in my eyes (for some, may be chump change) before you're even able to cash out. And I say this from the place of having a cashforward. Not a bad product but the threshold is just crazy when compared to just about every competing product.

It's not much compared to hotel or airfare redemptions, but it is a lot for cash back / travel statement credits.

Sallie only requires $25, though, and it looks like Rewards card requires only $10 to redeem.
Love: IHG, Platinum, Sallie Mae, AA Plat, CSP
Like: Discover, ED, BCE, Hyatt, Arrival, Freedom
Might drop: BrooksBros, Prestige (Costco PC?)
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

It's been dull for me. A lot of MF users (granted, consider the sources) seem to have AA issues with them but I was able to get a very large CLI with them recently. However, I finally decided to just go ahead and get the Amazon Prime Store Card so I don't have much need for my Sallie Mae any more -- especially since I was able to immediately bump the Prime Store Card to the same limit. And with the double cashback promo even the Prime Store Card won't get much use for those quarters later on in the year.

CarefulBuilder14 wrote:As far as concerns about them being super-conservative...I've seen a lot more complaints from people with baddies who got their card after 4 rounds of recon than people with good credit.

Exactly. One's credit profile definitely matters but that's always the case with any creditor. If one has a profile that isn't in shape and/or is borderline then one is going to potentially run into problems even if approved. Being "in" doesn't matter. Creditors routinely review reports.

Yes, creditors do set their own criteria and some can be more lax while others can be more conservative but the creditor's requirements are just half the equation.

Count me among the people just enjoying Sallie Mae while it lasts. I've only had one customer service incident with Barclays, and it was pretty disappointing. The authorized user card for me apparently got lost in the mail. NBD, my wife called in to get another one sent, and was told she'd still be able to use her account. They (meaning the system, I assume) shut down her card, too. Had to call back to get it working again. Luckily they're strictly a 5% account for me and I have other payment options. That's not how you get people to use you for their main card.
*edited to add: our cards have completely different numbers, too, so I wouldn't think there would be any reason to shut down her card. Either way, if they had told us this it still wouldn't have bothered me (because I use other cards); it was the fact that we were told wrong information*

I'm with Member in that if I was forced to just use one lender it would be Discover. I'm happy enough with Amex, but I'm just not their target customer. Discover has a product that's great for me, and when I do need to interact with customer service it is actually a pleasant experience.
