I would say BarclayCard for MasterCard, but your description of Chase pretty much sums up Barclay as well. I could use Citi as my MC but I'm not huge fans of theirs honestly.

Maybe a BofA BBR? Or an MLB CR?

US Bank has a REI MC.

There's also WF.

Really, though, I wouldn't expect any of those to be much better than a Citi DoubleCash.
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt
May close or PC: Prestige, Arrival, BrooksBros
AA Platinum converting into Costco

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
Letting new accounts cool off since May

Double Cash is a consideration, although redundant with the planned Freedom Unlimited. Either way it's going to be a while.

I'm just trying to think of my perfect slate of cards, and whether or not that could stay within the 5-card self-imposed limit.

A Good Cash Back Card (Discover IT), A Good Non-Category Cash Back Card (Freedom Unlimited and/or Double Cash), A Good General Travel Card (CSP?), a points card with decent offers (??) and a useful Store Card (already covered with Amazon).
Wallet: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Chopping Block: Synchrony
Future: TBD

When you get a second Chase UR card, maybe you'll find there's very little extra complexity compared to having only Freedom. A trio of UR cards doesn't have to count as a full 3, if the limit of 5 is based on the desire to avoid complexity.

*Also, you could maybe get one hotel or airline card per year, and replace it with a new one each time the next AF is looming.

The MF crowd thinks they're so smart because they found a "backdoor" way to join NFCU, so that's the latest bandwagon.

I predict a flood of "OMG NFCU SHUT ME DOWN!" in the near future. These people never learn.

A backdoor to NFCU.

Security will be very interested in hearing this one.

As little travel as I do, neither would work. The CSP would be the best choice for what traveling I do at this point, if that changes in the future, MAYBE then.

Not even sure why they're so excited though. I looked at the NFCU cards. Nothing special. Must be the high limits thing.

I really don't get why people seem to go nuts over credit unions. They or at lest the local ones seem to flat out suck.

I have thought about joining pen fed, but I wouldn't use there products until likely 5-10 years later. It seems kind of stupid to join a CU now when I likely won't be doing business with them on a meaningful level in the near future.

The thought about doing that backdoor thing for NFCU had crossed my mind but it seems like a bad idea.

After being good for months, I went and applied for the Blispay to see what kind of limit they would give. Now I need to call them on Monday to see what they want from me. I hope they ask for income because the fact they didn't on the app seems really insane to me. I thought it would ask on the 2nd part but nope.

Might also app for the Cash+ now that it's now a yes or no on that card instead of the downgrade if you don't get a 5k limit or higher BS. Still thinking about this card and leaning on the side of not doing it right now or just forgetting about going for it at all.

Credit unions get popular on MF whenever the idiots end up carrying balances on their R-Cs.

What sort of trick are people using to join?

That or come to the realization that life happens and sometimes keeping "1% utilization" is unreasonable.

I don't care who you are, Money in the bank is money in the bank even if you're carrying a small balance on a low/no interest offer.
