Current cards and thoughts

Postby MemberSince99 » Fri May 20, 2016 10:54 am

Figured after about a year I'd update for those interested.

Discover is my largest limit card today at 21k. I used to not believe they gave limits like that.

Citi has been good as I have a DC with 17.5k and a thank you premier at 14.75k as well as a home depot at 10.1k

Amex has also been good I have the npsl platinum and a bcp with 15k. Just today got the Edp for Mr points don't know limit yet

I got the message mf fad of the month card blispay with 7.5

Also took the fnbo offer for the fixed rate card for 6k

Pnc hounded me worse than any debt collector until I finally bit on them and got 10k

Also got a store card with a 3k limit and the Amazon store card from sync with 3.7k
Sync doesn't like me I tend to use their promotions and not pay interest. Can't blame them but hey they offered.

That's a really nice limit on your Discover card. I have had mine for a year and a half, and never been able to get a CLI (I didn't authorize HP, so we're only talking SP here). My limit isn't horrendous at $8.5K, and it gets a lot of use since I find their bonus categories generally useful.

Thank you. Your limit is good. What I learned is they like lots of use and swipes. I'm sure there is more to it but that seemed to help.

Also I called in and I said you guys rock I live the all american cs you are my favorite company to call which is true. They noted that on the account she told me and next time I had a manual review for cli it was very generous.

It's primarily profile and income. My Discover it sees little to no use and is at $32K. Two other cards (Barclay and USAA) with very little use have seen significant CLI's as well. Don't rely on the usage meme.

I'm still at only $3k on Discover. Because it's a joint account, getting a CLI is a hassle I'm not going through again until I need to make a large transaction.

I started at $2k in 2014 and requested one CLI in 2015. It was a SP, but still a long three-person phone call and PITA.

From what I've seen with discover having had a number of them they do in fact like usage and it does seem to correlate to when I started getting increases. Along with reading that from others who saw the same thing it seems to matter. I get it's always ymmv but that's when things starts for me after always getting shot down before that

How do you find those two? And what made you decide to return to Amex Platinum?

Discover IT, $1400 - It's a good card, and I use it a lot. It's still in rebuilding stage with my other cards.
Chase Freedom - It's my oldest active account, sitting at $2000 so I'll likely keep it and just apply for the Freedom Unlimited and CSP down the road.
CareCredit - Not my favorite card by any stretch. Sitting at $1000 and will probably get cut after I PIF.
Amazon - Useful, but low CL at $800. Good to have around since I'm a prime member, and for use for shopping for birthdays and holidays. I had considered cutting it along with CareCredit, but starting to think I'll keep it around.

Future plans, probably a CSP and FU and maybe Citi for the EQ since Discover now, amazingly, gives me TU and EX through a new site (www.creditscorecard.com) which shows EX while the regular Discover site shows TU, kills two birds with one stone nicely.
Current Cards: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Future: TBD

Good to see that you have found a set of cards you seem pretty happy with.

I'm finding I mostly use Discover or my BOA Cash Rewards wildlife card. I have a few other cards that aren't used too often.

Like some other people I have to wonder if Blispay is just Duck Part II. I have no idea if they will be around in a year, but when I saw what they are offering, it was pretty compelling. And I didn't have a Visa at the time either so it filled that gap. I like the rewards structure but you have to wonder if it's sustainable. I think they are counting on lots of people not paying it off in time and getting stung with interest from the date of purchase. If that doesn't happen, then maybe they won't be around over time. I don't know, of course, but you have to consider that.

As far as the FNBO card, as a homeowner I know I'm one bad furnace away from a big bill (or roof, or..... you get the idea). Since BTs and 0% offers aren't always available, I thought it might be wise have a really low fixed rate card, until I have those funds free and clear put aside (and perhaps even after). So it sure isn't an everyday card most of us would want as it has no rewards, but it's kind of like an ace in the hole in case something bad that wasn't expected happens. I like it for its purpose and that's the one and only purpose it really has. As far as I know that's the lowest rate out there. Of course any time you say that someone points out something you missed, but as far as I personally know there isn't anything with a lower long term rate. Someone probably has a card from 1988 with 1% for life, or some really obscure targeted offer that's lower...but I don't know about those.
