Chargeback time limit?

Postby mesopot » Sat May 07, 2016 6:01 am

About a year ago I made a hotel reservation for a stay later this month and left a deposit using my Chase Visa card. The hotel was then sold to another hotel chain and now has a new name (they sent me an email about the change). Two weeks ago I canceled the reservation and, according to the original terms, am entitled to a refund (I got an email acknowledging the cancellation and still have emails listing the deposit). They said I should get the deposit back within a week.

Can I dispute the original charge or is it too late? Is it a problem that I paid one company and another said it would return the deposit?

Did you speak to the hotel again in that two-week period? I recommend doing your due diligence before initiating a charge back.

I did mine on charges that were a few months old, but Chase was very good about it when I call to I dispute the charge.

I spoke to the hotel again. They were entirely unhelpful.

From online searching, it seems Visa issuers are supposed to allow chargebacks for refund issues, but I'm unable to find details, including timing. The process seems to be different from the normal dispute mechanism. I'd hoped to know how it works before calling Chase.
