Is your desire to close Discover based on being unhappy with the CL? Thinking it overlaps with Freedom too much? Having enough different rewards programs? Something else?

Edit: I'm meeting minimum spend on two cards, and still use Discover for restaurants. The rewards are easy to redeem.

And what do you dislike about Dillards and Kingsize? Does either offer activity alerts?
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE
Taxes/Misc: SPG

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

With Discover, I am pleased with the card and there service, but yes, it kind of runs along with Freedom, and I have AMEX BCP, BOA cash rewards also that have good rewards, especially BCP. Just trying to whittle down cards for more conveince and to make room for future CLI"s on better cards like MPR. No, Dillards nor Kingsize have alerts, and I actually can get better rewards using other cards I have.

I got a PP Select card in the mail. Fortunately, there's a letter included that mentions Citi Prestige, so I don't have to deal with any confusion over whether the card is for the good Citi version or the mediocre Amex Platinum one. I also don't have an Amex Hilton Surpass to complicate things even further with its lousy PP version...all three of which are called "Select" to keep things confusing.

Now that I have Prestige, it really seems kind of ridiculous for Platinum to not include guest access with at least one of PP or Delta. I'll be using the SFO Centurion lounge for at least two visits this summer, and probably a Delta lounge somewhere, but free guest access at Centurion lounges probably doesn't mean very much to many customers when they have so few locations. Crowds and quality will certainly vary with each location and the time.

Well, I'm in the "Freedom and Discover are different enough to have both" camp, so I can see how closing Discover might be reasonable for you, even if it's something I would certainly not do with my own Discover account.

Maybe close Dillards and Kingsize now, and see how you feel about Discover in a few months? Discover allows for activity alerts, so it's easy to monitor the account.

Good idea, think I will do that for now.

I'd add that with Discover being your oldest account, it's worth preserving that card for AAoA alone. And with no AF and with a relatively low CL, I don't think you have to worry about "freeing up" credit lines for other cards. Other issuers are unlikely to worry about a potential debt of a few thousand dollars, and if you apply for another Discover product and they happen to care, you can always reallocate or close the IT at that time.

How are you concerned about occasional Freedom/It overlap, but not BofA/BCP (gas and groceries) overlap or Arrival+/Venture (travel statement credits, no bonus categories*) overlap?

I don't know if Kingsize clothes are a good value, but if you're buying them anyway and spending an appreciable amount, I don't see any cards that consistently offer better rewards there. I don't see any portals. The Dillards card does look lousy, unless someone can make heavy use of a 10% off shopping pass or exclusive events.

Are you sure you're not just hunting for excuses to kill off your smaller CLs? :ppp There can be value in simplicity, though.

*except for Uber and RewardsBoost partners, but you have the Marriott and UR portals.

As opposed to canceling Discover, you could just PC the Freedom to the Freedom Unlimited so that they aren't similar. Use that for your retail spending and ditch the store cards since they have no real rewards. The only store card that I see that's a keeper would probably be Amazon, although the answer is different for different people.

The one thing I've learned is never say I'm done or an app will happen in under a month.
