My account always has the option for an increase ( I guess because I never go for it) but don't want an increase on that avcount...perhaps not even with a SP really. It will only potentially prevent me from getting increase or higher SLs on cards that are useful instead of useless...

I always call rather than push that button, and tell the CSR I do not authorize a HP. I realize that's not always foolproof, but it has worked for me so far.

Meaning when you call and do that it's a SP?

One of three things happen:
No pull: Approved based on internal records only
    SP
CSR says they need a HP; I tell them no and don't get a CLI

Obviously, if you need the CLI you may have to consent to a HP. And I suspect CLIs I've gotten based on internal records alone might have been higher if I'd consented to a HP. But for me, CLIs are just a way to make sure my utilization stays really low (I try to keep it under 2%.) If I'm going to take a HP, I'd rather app for a whole new card.

Congrats on the home-buying plans and good luck!

Thanks. I'm planning to go through FHA and might get some down payment assistance once I do. Even then it's only 3.5% down. (I'm not a veteran so VA is out).

In the meantime, paying down debts and letting everything fall off while maintaining the cards I have now.

No, but according to a family member 75k for PRG is floating around, although it might be targeted.

I often wonder how much travel I would have to do to make a travel/airline/hotel card worth it. I look at CSP because it's essentially a general travel card, the AMEX offers are attractive but can't see paying that kind of annual fee if it's not going to be put toward much in the way of travel, say once a year. Even the CSP AF is a little on the high side for what I'd be doing with it.

As long as you can meet a card's minimum spend without overspending, you might just want to try an AF travel card out. There's a lot of middle ground between churning and picking one travel card to keep indefinitely.

Annual fees are definitely a small part of my total travel spending, but I travel a lot. Keep in mind that a good bonus can effectively offset several years of annual fees.

As one example that reinforces what CarefulBuilder14 said, the CSP's signup bonus has a potential monetary value of somewhere between $500 and $625, depending on how you use it. That covers five AFs. AFs are not to be overlooked, but don't cheat yourself out of a good card by putting too much emphasis on not paying them.

...and potentially more than $625 if you consider transfer partners.

The minimum spend requirement is comparatively high, though, at $4k in 3 months. Some decent hotel and airline cards only require $1k to $3k.

I rebooked via Aspire (Citi's concierge) for Prestige's 4th night (which, two CSRs warned me without my needing to ask, only covers the one room I'm in). The process involved some minor delays, but was generally pretty painless. Clearly a huge share of the calls they get are from people who want to use this perk.

The email proposal they sent me was very clear. They linked the new, identical reservation to my existing BW Diamond loyalty account, so the only difference between the new one and the old one is the new one will come with 12.5% back as a statement credit. I was worried that I might lose the chance to earn BW rewards, or that it would be a sort of "black box" in which I wouldn't know if someone had made a mistake until it was too late, but I found it very transparent. The problems I've read about seem to mostly arise when a Prestige customer wants to rush things over the phone, or doesn't read the email proposal carefully.

I'm pretty happy with my first experience with the 4th night feature. Other than only getting a credit for one room, my only complaints are (and the first two might be the "fault" of the hotel):
1. They might have gotten me a very slightly lower group rate (like 5% lower than my AAA rate) that existed for at least two nights, but might not have been compatible with a longer four-night stay. I wasn't able to book the group rate online.
2. The first CSR said she'd email me within an hour, but I didn't actually get the email until seven hours later. I'm not upset, as I've read most people don't get a response until the next day.
3. On my initial call to Citi, I used the Prestige general customer service line, and was on hold for about five minutes. Mid-day Saturday is probably a busy time for them.
