Reporting for my public flogging: I'm out of the garden.

Had to get four new tires on Saturday, so I applied for an account for decent instant savings. If I return to the same place, I can potentially use it for further discounts. At least it's not another account with just a one-time benefit right? I hated taking another HP and adding an account, but realistically it will very likely have no impact on me whatsoever.

I got a 50K Platinum offer, too. This one was by email and it marks the second offer I've received. I'm liking this - just hope it continues. I'd like a big MR boost, but I am in no hurry. I'm happy to sit back and see if anything better comes along.

Nice. Which factors swayed you over?

Like you said, Delta services LEX & SDF, and also out of BNA (Nashville) which is only 80 miles down the road. Also, we are members also of HHonors, so the Gold Status and points will be nice. Actually was thinking of applying for Hilton Reserve anyway before Platinum invite. Now that we have the Wife's Freedom card paid off, and the 2 Citi cards getting there with several free interest months left, we are planning on traveling more. Having Hilton brand along with Marriott opens up more options.

I'm still gardening until I find an RV to buy. Trying to figure out RV financing is interesting. It's a mortgage, but most mortgage lenders won't deal with RVs. It's a vehicle, but you can't get a car loan for one. Definitely have some research ahead of me here, and I want to get it right for such a :money: :money: :money: purchase.

BoA sent an "exclusive offer" for the cash back 1,2,3 card. Only thing better about it is %0 for 15 months instead of 12 months on there web page. I would take the $200 bonus they have over this offer.

P.S has anyone ever been asked to update income/other info on a card held less than a year?

Had good experience with my BOA 123, opened it in July 2015 at $1500CL HP CLI after request credit line increase popped up on my account in Nov. 2015 went to $5k, then it popped up again in Jan. 2016, went to $10K where I am now, and the Request credit line increase just popped up again, but going to wait a while this time.

Never had this happen. I don't think I've ever been asked for updated income data unless I was requesting a CLI or an APR decrease.

With actual travel? Portal/partner purchases? Buying points?

I'm trying to figure out what will work for me. I've got five airline and seven hotel programs. It's unlikely that I'll end up getting award flights and rooms from all of them (at least in the near future), even with points+cash rates. I can (in most cases) reach a redemption threshold by buying points or transferring MRs or URs...but I question whether it would be worth it unless I'm already most of the way there.

I'd open some exotic FF account for a lucrative and unorthodox MR/UR transfer, but I might not bother trying to keep surplus points in the program alive after the trip.

Even spending time thinking about 15k points with Marriott or Best Western seems silly when I've got like 300k points in IHG (not excessive, given that I'll probably use them up by the end of 2017). Rather than concern myself with Marriott's expiration policy or how rare my Best Western stays are, maybe it's best to just stop thinking about it and convert the points to AA or Delta miles I'll actually use.

Closed a card for the first time today: PRG.

A "jack of all trades, master of none" card doesn't really have a place in my wallet. I've got Platinum for perks and CSP+Sallie for rewards.

No request for, or offer of, a retention bonus with my light spend on it.

CarefulBuilder14 wrote:The hotel still has space. I could conceivably get Prestige, possibly book a duplicate reservation also at the AAA rate through Carlson Wagonlit, and once it's in place, cancel the original one. I can still possibly get the $300. The risk is that the hotel fills up between now and the time I rebook.

...and now some people want to stay different nights.

I'm glad I still have a boring old directly-booked refundable AAA rate. If I do need to change anything, I can do it on the BW website, rather than hope to successfully communicate changes to a travel agency with a 24-hour response time. A case where simplicity beats the possibility of better rewards.

Still quite happy in the garden...wondering if I should get a UNFCU card eventually for a "true PIN" travel card, or if a low-balance Schwab debit card will work well enough.
