So, I finally got the FU. I had to do a pseudo-PC to get it and had a nice long chat with U/W after my personal banker in branch intervened.

In short, I got talked to about my last 4 apps w/Chase (All approved, too), I was then told in no uncertain terms that I could not be approved for any more credit line at this time based on income. ($40K/$75K reported)

I was not allowed to simply re-allocate the limits to get approved, but was allowed to close my Marriott card in order to gain the requisite credit line for the FU. Of course, I complied with this.

Well, they're on to me and my bonus chasing. Lol.

They chilled out (a little) once I mentioned my upcoming 5yr anniversary and how I wanted to make it special.
The fact that I PIF on statement cut helps.

Someone I know went for this card and got the 7-10 day screen, but then also an email saying 30 days. Are they screwed or do they have a shot?

Depends...

I got 7-10 at first and then 2wk message, then the decline letter.

To be clear, you were originally declined for 5/24, right?

How does Chase determine that these days? When I was a student with good credit but low income, I remember my "potential debt" being a negative factor a couple of times. At the time, I had something like $80K available credit on $20K annual income.

(I like high credit limits not because I use them, but because it makes it easy to maintain a low utilization rate even when racking up thousands of dollars temporarily, e.g. while on a business trip.)

Hmm, I think I might consider doing that~ PC my Sapphire. Thanks for the idea. Also, do you think after PCing we would still be eligible for the $150 bonus?

It would not be eligible.

This is why I kept pushing for an official approval which is where my personal banker stepped in and got me a true reconsideration.

I still had to make available enough CL for approval by closing an account full stop. (Marriott)
