I don't think I could make good enough use of it to keep one indefinitely, but if I got a good enough offer I would take it for the MR and perks but plan on closing after a year or so. Glad to find out I am on their radar at all though. When my year of double cash back with Discover is up I'll be spending more on the ED. I'm interested to see if I will continue getting targeted offers.

So I'm still "gardening" (just by default) for the foreseeable future.

Smart to pass on that and wait for a better offer - or at least until you can make great use of the benefits.

Just another 2% card that's less flexible (rewards instantly come off the statement, you cannot save them up). It offers financing, which is nice, but you can often get 0% offers from existing creditors if you try. Yawn.

The terms don't look too bad compared to other 2% cards...but not of interest to points people unless it's for MS.

I suspect the issuer might be overwhelmed with apps. I wonder when we'll be seeing rants about bad customer service and not valuing their customers.

And Amex's website now fully reflects the EDP/ED PC.

Yeah, 50K isn't anything too enticing (especially on a card with no AF waiver for the first year). I was more excited by the fact that I got anything. Of course I realize that doesn't mean the offers will keep coming in, but getting into MR at all was a small gamble so I am willing to wait for something that will provide a lot more value.

The Platinum is flashy, but easier to get than your $20k ED.

What was the appeal, given all your alternatives?

6 months interest free on all $199 plus? Surely you jest. :)

I assumed you had better promotions available, like the big Chase BA one or something from Discover.
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt
May close or PC: Prestige, Arrival, BrooksBros
AA Platinum converting into Costco

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
Letting new accounts cool off since May

I suppose the difference is that this is theoretically forever or at any point while you're a cardholder.

Is that accurate or is it part of an introductory offer. I see the value in 6 months of free money. It actually appeals to me for that reason but I don't buy things that way. Even if I didn't have to pay, I would still want to pay it and get rid of it.

Citi replaced my AA Platinum World MC with WEMC.

How thoughtful of them to increase the fees merchants pay...

I got an offer for Delta Gold, too...but instead of 50k+$50, it was just a renewal of the old one I don't want. Oh well.

I would say it depends on how many people end up messing up on remembering when to pay off there card. With only 6 months I think it's something that could happen.

I think in any case it's always good to have more credit options as there are not that many %2 everything cards on the market right now.

In addition to messing up, there are people who will be making the purchases on a gamble type basis...HOPING they will have the money. The 6 months of financing is the same really as any APR on any product. They know they will be getting plenty of interest after the 6 months. Plus regular interest etc etc.

Is the interest retroactive on this like a lot of financing out there? Meaning, does it go back to day one or I starts after 6 months if it's not paid in full in 6 months?

Also, how does it seperate the purchases and how do you choose which purchase to apply a payment to? Just curious...I'll never find out first hand so this is my best shot at knowing.

Is the credit limit over 5K on the AA card?

No, it's still at the $4,600 SL. I've used it for about $4.5 to $5k of purchases in a bit over two months, so more than the minimum but not extraordinary use.

I've contacted them a few times to upgrade my DC to World Elite to see if they would. When the card came out, it was 100% not available in anything other than World MC (or a lower tier maybe? Don't know). But some months later, I know it became available. The first time I called they said it didn't exist (which I knew for a fact to be wrong). I chatted a few times, but those people seem to just say yes to everything and first of all can't do anything like that anyway and second of all don't know what they're talking about.

I called at least one other time and then gave up.

I obviously don't need the World Elite card, but did want it since it has no negative impact on me.

Maybe I'll try again one day. (Also, the CL is far higher than 5,000, but that doesn't seem to be a factor).
