Need a new card suggestions??

Postby alsteig » Sun May 16, 2010 8:00 pm

I am a 23 year old full time employed college grad. I currently have a Wells Fargo Platinum Plus Visa 4k limit @ 18% rate 0% back. (yah I know a joke)
I also have a Bankamericard World Points 7.5k limit 7.24% rate and 1.5% cash back. I dont carry a balance on my Wells Card and am paying down my Bankamericard approx. 1 month to pay all the way down. My question is how long should I wait to apply for a new card, after paying off my Bankamericard. Should I call and bitch @ Wells for their sigi card, and or apply for Amex blue. I spend approx. 3k a month and pay it all down. I pulled my cred 2 months ago @ 740 Fico. I dont actually need any more credit but want to have a strong credit future....should I carry Visa Master and Amex. I wish their was an easy way to know. Oh yah i started my bofa card @ 3k limit and they keep raising it automatically. never late, never over limit for all accounts.

I was in a very similar situation some years ago. I use to have a main visa and a backup - just in case. But, over time, I accumulated another visa, a mc, discover and AMEX - which is now more of a pain than not. With credit companies closing accounts for non-use - I am forced to use each card every month - which is a pain to manage and I now have to use cards (that were initially meant to be backups) that may not offer the best rates and rewards to me - do know that I pay-off my cards each month.

First, understand your credit needs - if you don't need it - don't get sucked in. If you do need more - shap around for what will meet that need - nothing more - nothing less. Plus, it never hurts to look around to see what other promotions card issuers are offering like lower interest - but, read the fine print and never pull the trigger unless you really need it.
