BOA Shop Safe - if temp # stolen, is your card canceled?

Postby paisley » Wed Feb 03, 2016 10:48 am

Hi, I am thinking about getting a BOA card so that I can use their Shop Safe feature with virtual/temporary card numbers.

My question is: If the virtual card # is stolen, will BOA still cancel your 'real' card and send you a new one with a new number, etc? I'm trying to avoid that hassle and I'm wondering if the temporary card numbers are the answer.

So lets say I get a virtual card number, and allow $50 to be purchases on it. I purchase something for $45 on a sketchy website. The number is stolen and they attempt to use the virtual card number. Will I be alerted to this fraud? And will this cause BOA to close down my real card or just the virtual number?

Thanks in advance!

I can't answer your question unfortunately, but now that you pose it I'm eager for an answer myself! I was unaware of this feature with BofA cards and it sounds really cool.

LOL, I currently relegate my least favorite (and lowest limit) card to purchases like this that might be a bit sketchy. I figure if the number is stolen I won't mind waiting for a replacement card since I seldom use it anyway. I'd love a safer option and I already have a BofA card so that would perfect.

Anyone know more about this?
