I know the cost of employee time is very real. I just didn't think of it as a factor for a person with poor credit, I thought it was more for a person with low income. But when you brought it up it made sense.

Okay now I get it.

On a side note I found online what Chase did to my family member: http://www.ag.ny.gov/press-release/atto ... ded-184000

The picture is more clear now. Guess the fact it happened to less than 200k cardholders means that not many would have known about it. I had the impression it was more wide spread but now it makes sense.

I have to agree on the Comenity shut down thread, that person went way to far and got the AA that was well earned. They should do nothing with there credit for a long time and give the report a very long rest. But that isn't the MF way and instead they will say go apply else ware and ignore the big bad Comenity for taking AA just because you open 20 accounts a month.

I just cancelled my MF monitoring - very expensive and becoming less and less necessary with free credit report tools out there like Credit Sesame, Credit Karma, etc. I know those don't provide your real score, but I'm not as concerned about my actual score as some are. I worry more about the report itself.

I love how anytime someone posts that they got a prequal, the responses are always "that's a great APR! Why haven't you apped yet?"

Um, maybe they don't need it? Just because you get an offer doesn't mean you need the card. And why are people checking prequals every day (they said "this just started coming up today, yesterday it was ___") if they are "trying to garden"?

Blame lies on the person posting that they got a Prequalification.

It's crazy. I don't see the point of constantly checking prequals if you have no intention to app. Once in awhile, sure, if you're bored. Every day? That's a bit obsessive.

Look at lurker's "fraud rant" on MF:

http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit- ... 255/page/3

A rare case of him really stepping out and telling it like it is. Well, he always does, but usually makes it a bit more "PC" for myfico. That said, he's totally right. Fraud on a CC is basically an inconvenience. Not saying it's a good thing, but it's also not the end of the world. The threads just create panic because "omg I had the same fraud that day!" and the "theories" begin. These people act like their firstborn was killed and they need to mourn about it or something. Like he says, certainly worse things can happen to you (ID theft, debit card fraud/bank account, etc...)

I can't believe what I just did. First off, when I woke this morning, I had no intention of applying for any cards. I have way more than I need and am actually looking to close a few.

I saw an article on TPG indicating there were targeted United Club Card offers for no AF the first year. Just for s&g's I checked to see if I was targeted. I was. I decided to apply as it is a very good card and to get UA Club access for a year--it's a no brainer! I got approved. Now between my Freedom and this card, Chase has extended me $50K of credit.

The story doesn't end there though. I figured as long as I was app'ing I might as well get that Sam's Club MC I have been thinking about for so long. So I did.

So I now have two new cards :beat:

I really need to close a few to make up for this.

I was doing so well too...
American Express (2005): Premier Rewards Gold & Blue Cash Preferred
Chase: Freedom & UA Club USAA: Signature Visa & American Express
Discover it Bank of Hawaii Hawaiian Airlines WEMC Synchrony Sam's MC
Navy FCU Platinum Visa Citi Double Cash & AT&T Access MC

I stand a very good shot at my income increasing this year with some new opportunities I won't go into yet. When/If that happens I'll look into applying for my last two target cards toward December when the Double Cash period is up on Discover. Probably nothing before then barring a fantastic offer somewhere.
Current Cards: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Future: TBD

Unfortunately, it seems unlikely we will see any fantastic offers at least in the cash back space. Some details of another new card have been leaked -- the Schwab Amex -- and what is it? 1.5% cash back, redeemed into a Schwab account. Why anyone would bother when you can get 1.5% on a Quicksilver or 2% on a Double Cash and redeem it wherever you want, I have no idea.

Of course, that doesn't mean nothing will come along. It just seems that among cash back cards, the era of larger-than-2% rewards on permanent things has largely passed.

Is it just me or does it seem like the old black mag stripe is going away to be replaced by a sliver one in most cases?

I have only two cards with a black mag stripe and one of those will be getting a sliver one once the bank sends me a chip card replacement. Then only my FNBO card will have a black mag stripe.

I used to think the sliver ones had a "cool" factor but now I kind of like black better. Though my most interesting is my one credit card with a green mag strip.
