Capital One Quicksilver

Postby trainypooh » Tue Dec 29, 2015 6:53 pm

Anyone have a quicksilver with a limit of 5 figures? How hard is it to get a decent CLI on this card? They have been rather stingy with me.
My Wallet:
Discover IT - $9500
AMEX BCE - $9000
Chase Freedom - $5000
Capital One Quicksilver - $2700

Future Cards:
Chase CSP

Mine is at 10k but I've had it over a year and a half and it started at 3k. That said, Capital One is pretty firm about only allowing CLIs once every 6 months. So it takes time for things to grow. Now that I don't use it much, I don't expect much more growth. Like any lender, they want to see heavy usage. It doesn't guarantee a CLI, of course, but it seems it can improve your chances.

I don't have one but quite a few in the Credit Pulls Database were approved for $10K or more on application just on the first page of results that I looked at. It's not really about hard or easy with any creditor but what your credit profile and income qualify for. It's also not about stinginess or generosity. If you're not getting CLI's then a creditor has concerns with your credit profile and they're not just going to hand out CLI's. Those concerns need to be addressed.

It's true that they only do CLIs every 6 months. I will be eligible on Jan 3rd

My current limit is $11,500 on my QS. Capital One will grow with you (as everyone else said, CLI eligibility is every 6 months) if you use it well. My general spend is now spread (more accurately alternated) between my QS and my DC - and beginning in the new year, there will be a chunk of that since I will be paying my health insurance premiums out of pocket (reimbursed in part by my employer).

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you had the card? And what limit did you start off with?

I have had this card since February of 2012, started with $500 platinum (later upgraded to QS) and last year another QS card was merged into it. It was redundant to get the other QS, but I hadn't realized before then that I could just PC, and I merged as soon as account combining was available through Cap One. At the time of merging, the cards were at $6,000 and $5,500. I couldn't get another CLI at the 6 month mark from the previous CLI on this card though, since the merge had fallen in between.

Combining accounts can certainly lead to some large CLs...$50k+ in a few cases.

There is the risk that Cap1 or other issuers might be put off since a lot of short-lived accounts may look like churning to them...even if your purpose is getting a good CL and not racking up a bunch of bonuses.

Copy cool thanks for the info.

I asked because I opened an account with CapOne in Feb 2015 and I had absolutely no credit history so they sent me a Platinum as a debit card and a 400$ QS one which is for people with low credit and/or low credit history. 4 months later they gave me a 350$ CLI and on Jan 5th I can ask for another CLI so I assume it'll go from 3 digits to 4 digits as I have a perfect record so far.

Went from a TU of 580 to somewhere north of 730. Now that my scores are "good" with soon a full year of credit history can I PC from QS one to QS? It seems that the QS has a significantly higher limit than the QS One. Will I be able to see another increase with the PC?

Great job on improving your credit!

The only way Capital One will let you PC one card into another is if you already have a prequalified offer for the card you are trying to change into. So check your Cap One pre-quals, and if you have one for the QS, you can ask via chat or phone (I have found Chat easier) to have your QS One changed to a regular QS. Your CLI eligibility schedule does not change when you PC a card.
