Capital One Quicksilver One CLI issues

Postby shopnificent » Thu Dec 17, 2015 5:14 pm

Hello everyone!

I have a both the Capital One Quicksilver One and a Platinum Unsecured Credit Card. I opened the Platinum($300) on 9/12/15 and the Quicksilver($500) was on 9/17/15. On 11/16/15, I requested a CLI on the Platinum and was granted a $500 increase bring me to $800. So i thought i would try for a CLI on my QS but have consistently received the following message "we are unable to obtain your most recent month;y payment data from the credit reporting agency". When I called cus serv to get an explanation, i got a cockamamie explanation that maybe i didn't put my income in correctly because he has done this before (who cares!). Then he said maybe it was my payment history but had to put the breaks on that explanation when he saw that I have PIF my bills and make several payments per month. The last thing he had for me was the steps program but at this point I had to throw at him that they had granted an increase to my Platinum that was acquired only days later!! My credit scores are MUCH higher than when i applied for the cards as i have been working aimlessly to rebuild. After 90 days of clean up, disputes, and determination, i have gone from super low 500's "bad credit" to almost mid 600's, considered "fair" teetering on "good". Does anyone have any suggestions or have you ever seen this response to a CLI??? Thank you in advance!

If you got a CLI last month why are you trying again so soon? You arent going to get CLI's every month, that is not how it works.

You haven't had the cards for long so you need to establish some kind of history. It's going to take months (maybe a year or two) for you to have a high limit card so patience my friend.

Capital One is pretty much rock solid firm about 6 months between CLIs. So even if you get a tiny increase, that's it for 6 months, and trying before that is a waste of time.

Be patient...it'll take care of itself over time.

There appears to be some sort of trend of payment data issue with Capital One. On MF the issue's symptoms seem to be mostly pointed out by those denied CLI's due to late payments. However, the affected people never had a late payment. It's probably a more widespread issue with CO.

While that's great, 90 days is no time at all in the credit world. Even a year isn't much time. Building and rebuilding is a long, slow process so set realistic expectations. Also consider the potential payment history issue I mentioned.

My suggestion for you is to take about 12 months off from asking and or applying for anything until you get your credit score up. This will only approve things for you as well as open up new oppertunities to get automatic CL increases as well as new cards if you want. Well thats me, I like to play it very safe. Although i have seen in several threads within this community that people are applying and or have applied for cards every 3 months.

Someone with OPs score and history will definitely do more harm than good applying every 3 months. Personally, I dont think ANYONE should apply that often...its a lot of damage.

Like you said, a year of waiting and building sounds like a good plan.

I've had an annual fee version of the Platinum card ever since HSBC sold most of its credit card business to Capital One. In regard to the credit limit, Capital One left mine at $300 for what seemed like forever. I managed to claw my way to a $2000 limit with several online requests starting in 2013. Other issuers have granted MUCH more during the same period of time. I'm starting to suspect that the nature of the Platinum card product itself is somewhat restrictive, although I have no other Capital One cards to compare results. I did request (and was granted) a product change to a QS One. The fee is $30 cheaper so that alone was worth the switch.

Excellent forum, btw. Found myself here quite often so I thought I'd go ahead and join. :)

I do think there are limits to what one can achieve with the Platinum product in most cases.

With Capital One it seems most of the time it ends up being better to just reapply if you want a much larger limit/lower APR/etc.
