The worst part is that as usual everyone rushes in with how horrible Barclay's is, and "these are the responsible henchmen!" followed by posting the phone number to call etc..

Take some responsibility. Banks do not just pluck names from a random list to CLD or close accounts. So in some way shape or form, maybe need to consider that it was YOUR fault this happened. Barclay's may be considered sensitive and maybe that's true (although I have never had an issue with them) but it doesn't mean they just did this because they don't "like" you. People on MF need to stop attaching human emotions to corporations, and step back and think about what it is that they did that contributed to the AA, vs the attitude of "call and demand reinstatement, this company is a bunch of crooks!"...like I keep saying, I don't know which creditor those people think they will be "safe" with.

They're like "that's why I cut all ties with Barclay's!" and stuff. Well maybe it was your aggressive credit seeking that caused the issue and not Barclay's fault. Yes banks are sometimes hypersensitive with their risk models, but those posters make it sound like Barclay's is just some mean old lender who picks random people and AAs their accounts. So instead of cutting all ties with Barclay's and deciding that solves the problem, maybe stop applying for credit 5x more than a normal person does!

See. I don't fall for the whole 1% reporting mantra. I understand it but it really shoots you in the foot for a time when you'll actually need the credit extended to you.

I pay after statement cut and while my utilization may look downright shocking some months (as high as 60-80% on some credit lines), i've faced no AA as of yet with one active collection on two reports (due to fall off next month)

On another note, Chase just sent me a letter informing me they have upgraded my Freedom to a VS. I didn't even have to ask for it.

We'll actually be making some travel plans in 2016, so I might apply for an Arrival+ for the bonus...we'll see.

Almost afraid to admit this, but I got Discover and Amazon recently with about 90%+ utilization on all my cards. It helps that I make all my payments on time, and always above the minimum, lately well above the minimum since my income is better than it was this time last year, even this time six months ago. I paid $200 off the balance on the Walmart card and EQ went up 20 points, now at 657. A little bit goes a long way. At that rate, 700 when everything is paid off is a no-brainer.

It's part of the reason I'm so adamant about slowing down on apps, because there are a select few people over there who have the income or the profile to back up that many inquiries. They see people like CA and Ron1 and think that's the norm, and that they'll turn out the same way with 50+ accounts and no problems. With Chase becoming more strict about how many accounts you can have over 2 years, and Barclays being Barclays, and now Capital One and Comenity of all companies AAing people left and right, might be a good idea to hold off for a while.

Personally, I really wasn't planning on applying for anything this year, but the Double Cashback program on Discover looked too good to hold off on, and I wanted to see if Amazon was going to be generous for the holidays (they were) since I am a Prime member and like the 5% cash back deal OR the Financing for purchases above $149. That to me is reason enough to keep that 'store card' around. My next app will probably be around August or September 2016 when I have some vacation time at work and some money to throw around, I'll probably try for CSP and see what kind of bonus is available at that point. Airline, Hotel and Rental Car should knock out at least a majority of whatever bonus there is at that time. But! Only if my other cards are paid off by that point (I see no reason why they wouldn't be).

I plan to break into the Citi AA miles vault in 2016 one way or another. Honestly that's about the only travel currency I have a (need) for. Maybe some Hyatt points if they sweeten the offers or if I get a targeted 50K pts offer, but I'm only interested in that if they match me to Diamond. :)

Right now my work is about 85% clerical in nature (lots of reliable volume but low-paying) and 15% in more advanced work (unreliable volume, but better-paying). My main priority is to replace the clerical work with more advanced work so I can gain experience and have much more attractive options available in the future.

Nixon,
YMMV as always, but I think the Diamond matches are currently going mostly to SPG Platinum. My highest status is IHG Platinum, so I haven't bothered.
Love: IHG, Platinum, Sallie Mae, AA Plat, CSP
Like: Discover, ED, BCE, Hyatt, Arrival, Freedom
Might drop: BrooksBros, Prestige (Costco PC?)
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

I have IHG Spire, as does the wife.
