I'd say a lot of the "learning from others" that one should do on myfico is to learn what NOT to do, unfortunately. Some of the subforums outside of the CC section aren't nearly as bad, but Credit Cards/approvals/applications should be basically avoided.

My online time at that site will be severely limited simply because I already know what I want, and don't want to pick up the habits of some of the regulars over there.
Current Cards: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Future: TBD

The worst habit I see lately is "I"m done apping for a year! Nothing I need!" and two weeks later "AARP reeled me in!" Give me a break.

Just from browsing myfico, I see it seems to have slowed down quite a bit there. Could just be from the holidays, or more people have realized it's a cesspool (especially bad lately) and have left.

The attendance (mostly watchers) on this site spiked dramatically in the last few days...and has stayed spiked.
Amex - BCP, Platinum, Business Gold
BoA - BankAmericard Cash Rewards
Chase - Freedom, CSP, RC, Ink Plus
Citi - DC, Prestige

I noticed that. Perhaps people are drifting away from there. There's only so much "did you app yet?" anyone can handle, along with reading countless stories from entitled, impulsive people who really need to get off of that site.

I just hope none of the undesirable ones end up on here, though I think they'd quickly become fed up with the realism on this site. We aren't coddling enough for many of them.

I like the personal finance forum on MF.

If you feel vulnerable to making a bad credit decision then time away from all credit news and discussion may be best. Every forum has some people with habits that are bad or at least unsuitable for your goals.
Wallet: Prestige CSP SchwabPlat Freedom It Hyatt SallieMae AAPlat
SD: Arrival BrooksBros BCE ED IHG
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

There was a time where I actually cared about getting unbanned there. Sad.

In any case, Let this be a lesson that letting crazies run amok can only stand for so long. I felt like I contributed there far more than what I took. Even if it wasn't always welcomed.

Look at what it took to stop my handle from getting mentioned on that site. The equivalent to martial law on a forum stifles creativity. Know this.

Part of my problem with this type of posts is that it puts the responsibility on someone other than the person making the decision to app. If you're gonna app, app. But then don't pretend like someone else (like a bank) forced you to do it, and your poor helpless self had no choice but to be "reeled in". It implies a lack of accountability.

Exactly. That's the major issue. There's nobody forcing you to apply, so stop acting like there is. If you really do feel forced to app, get off the sites and go find something else to occupy your time.
