A nuisance especially, like those who buy a pack of gum once every 6 months (and applying for 10 cards in between) but call the EO demanding retention offers as if they are some kind of great customer that Chase cares about keeping.

Are you joking? Chase NEEDS them. Badly.

I want some more chase cards, but I intend to wait, even though I don't want to.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 5/24 eventually is expanded to the cobranded cards. At the very least, I could see them tightening significantly on them. I'm sure the cobranded agreements require x amount of approvals, so maybe they won't go as tight as the UR earning cards, but they still are fairly lax at the moment and I don't think that will last.

I love the "don't call wait it out and you'll be approved" meme when someone's application goes pending, as if "pending" means "approved as long as you don't call!".

Even you knew when to slow down with apps though!

All the whining about how comenity is "going to lose so much business" is insane...it's the same whining as when chase, citi or amex take AA. "Bad business I'll never use them again" blah blah...if you don't want any chance of AA, I guess you need to give up CCs. Maybe look at the cause instead of blaming the lender for being horrible all the time.

I want CSP (along with AMEX EDP) but that will wait until November until the absolute latest. I may try for CSP middle of the year depending on credit score and finance situation, then transfer ALL my spending to that card if the minimum spend is still $4000 for 50,000 points. (or even 40,000).
Wallet: Chase Freedom, Discover IT

Critical mass, my friend.

When you're sitting at approximately double your personal income in CL's both store and bankcard it's time to think about what possible use you could have for it. I don't give a hoot about utilization save for keeping my aggregate level under 10% (That's $12,000)... I let my statements cut and pay between 2-10 days before payment due, making full use of the grace period.

I also love all the people who make threads asking if they should app, and 5 out of 5 replies say "no, wait for your 500 inquiries to fall off", yet the person ends up apping anyway. So why even ask? If you've made up your mind, then why even make a thread and then ignore the responses? If you want to app, app. But it's stupid to ask about apping when clearly, you've already decided.

Also the people who said they were "gardening for 2 years" and a week later there they are in approvals saying they "just wanted one more card", as if it was some unavoidable thing. If the temptation of a 2% cash back card is too great when you already have a 1.5% card, you aren't going to make it long without apping. There will always be new offers, and you have to know when it's not the right time.

I was just reading through this garden thread, and noticed there is a lot of apping going on :P. I guess one can only wait so long.

In other news, My wife was contacted by a headhunter for a job out of state. They would be doubling her salary, and we would be moving to an area that we love where the cost of living is about 40% of what it is now. It looks like the mortgage within the year is back on the table. It's hard to look at renting in an apartment building when we can buy a house, with space, for significantly less. I'm loving the idea of her working, and me spending all day fixing the house.

But, it is still all tentative as there is no offer on the table. I just can't stop thinking about making the move
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k

Well, that's why I think people setting 2 year gardening goals are unrealistic. 2 years is a long time, and you end up caving in. Better to set it in 3 or 6 month increments (and probably avoid forums if you are really serious about not apping, since most people seemingly cannot resist). However, on the flip side, if you really want to build a great credit profile and score, you cannot be applying for new cards every month or two. It just isn't normal (to creditors especially) and will eventually hold you back. It's better, IMO, to find what you want and stick with it, absent nerfing etc.

That move sounds great though....somewhere cheaper to live would be awesome.

I was much nastier about it, but I was actually nicer about it then I would have been in real life. It's really stupid. Something you know when you're 14 is stupid... Someone's response went so far as to suggest that cash is on its way out, which is possibly the stupidest thing I've heard in the last several years of my life... I want to make an account over there to try to explain these things but I feel like it's a supreme waste of my time...

I do think cash is slowly on its way out... but very slowly, and that way still has a very long stretch to go. It is true that I can go about my daily life and almost never have to use cash. But in the US at least, we are not even close to being able to go completely cashless. And as things stand now, you do not go on a road trip without the gas money in cash. Maybe you won't need it - in all likelihood you won't, but things like this can happen.
