You also get 30% of your points back when you use "pay with points" for travel. (not sure if this is standard on the Plat) You do have to spend $10k in the first 3 months and $10k in the next 3 months for all 150k points.

I got the 150K offer in the mail too. Gonna save it for maybe in the future... We'll see.

A relative (financially secure and reliable) who doesn't care about points/miles wants a $3k mattress and would reimburse me by check. I can't find any portals or offers for Tempurpedic.com, and I'm not sure how it would be classified by Discover. It would also be over the quarterly 5%/10% cap on Discover, anyway.

So that's $3k of spending in one transaction with no great alternatives (that I've found). Tempting as minimum spend on something.

ETA: I do still have minimum spend on Hyatt, but I won't have any trouble reaching it. I've just been using EDP a lot this month.

Amazon sells some tempurpedic mattresses, so you might want to do a price comparison. Also, for higher priced items, I find the price protection guarantee more important than cashback/points. A $3,000 mattress can easily be on sale in the rush of holiday shopping for $2000-$2500, but if you wait to buy till then, they may run out of supply and you may not be able to get it. If you buy now and use a price protection claim later, you can have your cake and eat it too, so to speak.

Discover has a 90 day/$500 max price protection coverage. You might want to check with your other existing cards as well (issuing bank as well as network) to see if anyone offers better terms for you there.

Another thing. If you are buying from a physical store, you (or your relative) may be able to negotiate a cash discount as well and just pay with a check.

Amazon has a lot of off-brand memory foam mattresses and Tempurpedic pillows. It doesn't have actual Tempurpedic mattresses. Costco has some excellent prices on a limited Tempurpedic selection, but not the desired model.

The rewards from Amazon would be enormous. With Amex offers, Freedom, and Discover I could get about $750 in value.

Still, I'm not sleeping on it or (ultimately) paying for it, so I'm happy to just take what rewards I can get.

I have seen Tempur-Pedic mattresses on Amazon but it's a very limited selection. Much like Costco. Even with the Amazon Store Card (if you're a Prime member) it would be significant cash back in the form of a statement credit. That's the one store card along with Walmart I'll likely decide to keep and use periodically. Although ask me tomorrow I may have a different opinion on Walmart.
Current Cards: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Future: TBD

Am I missing something with regard to the Walmart card? I got a mailer for it, and unless I'm crazy, it looks like it just offers 1% back (at Walmart only no less!).

Of course, if you mean for the financing offers, then I understand that, but I don't see much in the way of rewards otherwise.

Bought mattress with Hyatt. Finished off min spend and mid-month utilization will remain moderate. Rewards nearly as good as Freedom.

Have an IHG stay coming up. I'll eventually share the numbers after all the rewards post but I'm going to earn some ridiculous number of IHG points.

Yeah I was pushing my wife to apply for that. Chase has really screwed up AUs and Joint card holders, which makes it nearly impossible to "share" a card. It sort of forces us to do finances together though so I guess it has it's perks.
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k

Not missing a whole lot with this card, but if I can get a significant CLI on it and/or have it converted to Walmart MasterCard that may make it worth keeping. As it is it's on occasional use card, and may remain so. It's worth more to me than CareCredit which I can put those types of purchases on my rewards card and earn something other than 0%. I can do that with Walmart too, but Walmart is also one of my older cards so I'd like to keep the age if possible. BUT if I receive neither a CLI or MasterCard conversion by this time next year, it's out the door along with CareCredit.

There's a big trend over at MF for combining Capital One cards and limits. People are closing cards and ending up with comically large CLs. It doesn't strike me as largely churning, since people are unable to keep rewards on closed accounts.
