Just got an email saying I'm enrolled in Double Cash back from Discover starting in December. I thought that opportunity had passed but I guess not.
Wallet: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Chopping Block: Synchrony
Future: TBD

Because they feel they are invincible and "it won't happen to them" until it does, at which point they wail about how unfair the lender is for not liking their 30 inquiries from the past 2 weeks.

The problem with treating credit as a game is that no one ever wins every game.

Got an Amex offer in the mail.

Platinum Delta Skymiles. 70k+$100 credit with a Delta purchase. 15k MQMs.

Unfortunately, it was an incorrect delivery meant for a neighbor.

Don't know if the $195 AF was waived for the first year, though. Probably not, from what I've read about Delta offers.

But that's the kind of offer that I hope to get in 2016 on airline cards.
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE
Taxes/Misc: SPG

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

I just got an Amex offer by email for the Platinum Card. I have chatted twice (maybe 3, not positive) about upgrading to Platinum. Both times were mostly for information purposes: to make sure I can do it and to see what the process is. At the conclusion of both chats both reps tried to convert me actively by asking if I want them to send me the card right now (meaning, convert the account this second and overnight you your platinum card). I told both of them the same thing, I just finished a lot of travel and I do not have or want any anytime soon really, so I would need to wait to upgrade. I asked if they could offer me a bonus for spending on the card similar to the sign up bonuses they have. Both agents said that it is not something they can do. I made it clear that I intended to earn a bonus with a spending threshold to make sure they knew exactly what I was asking. They understood. They said Amex doesn't do it.

Anyway... The email offer says "your invitation to apply to upgrade your Card Membership" and then right below that, there is an offer for 50,000 MR for spending $5K in the first 3 months.

To me, the email does not explicitly say that the offer is for if I upgrade the card or if I apply for the card. I assume (I guess hope) that it is. I have until mid January to decide and I will likely be moving and furnishing an entire home for the first time in my life. While it's not my ideal card necessarily, it would cover the minimum quickly and easily and I would potentially get 50K for upgrading to the Platinum Card.

I also never received any sign up bonus on my Gold Card aside from AF being waive the first year. But I didn't care at that point.

Thoughts? Long, potentially terribly written post.

I tend to think the verbiage suggest you'd be applying for a new card, especially since the bonuses are usually only for brand new accounts, not upgrades.

This has been a very successful month. My Target REDCard limit automatically increased from $1100 to $1600.

Even better I just used the credit limit tool on Discover, and got an increase from $5300 to $7300!

Best of all, my American Express Blue Cash Everyday increased from $8200 to $10,000! That's my first limit to reach the 5 digit mark. No hard pull on any of these either.
American Express: Blue Cash Everyday (10k), Everyday, ; Discover It (7.3k) ; Target (2.1k)

Citi: Diamond (2k) ; Bank of America: Cash Rewards (2.6k) ; Capital One: Quicksilver (3k) , Sony ; Chase: Freedom (3.7k), Slate (3k), (Amazon) ; Barclay Ring ; Synchrony: Walmart MC, Amazon, Ebates

I would bet it is for opening a new card, too. It doesn't say anything about "When you open a new account" or anything like that? CSRs may be able to offer bonuses for upgrading on special, case-by-case instances, but for a targeted mailer I doubt it's for upgrading an existing account.

Just checked my email and the 50k Platinum offer was there, too. I've never called to ask them about upgrading PRG.

It says I can apply for an upgrade. It looks like a PC offer, not an application for a new account. There's a big "Upgrade Now" button.

It says I'm invited because I recently used the card to dine out ($25 at Chipotle two months ago?) and I might like the Platinum Dining Program.

Not today, maybe another day.
