Authorized users

Postby gregshelley@scrtc.com » Fri Oct 23, 2015 2:33 pm

I want to add my wife as an authorized user on my new Marriott card when I get it to get a 7500 point bonus that goes with it. Some of you know about her situation with her Freedom card, she had a large balance and transferred some to another card, now she has a $6k balance on a 22k limit. Will Chase frown on me adding her, or does it not really matter?

Others may know more than I do here, but I see no reason why it should matter. As an authorized user she is only able to spend on it, but as the primary account holder you are solely responsible for paying on the account. It's not like she is applying for something in her name and potentially exposing Chase to any more risk.

Primary Cards:
American Express EveryDay - $20,000 (10/14)

plus several store accounts of varying usefulness now

It certainly DOES happen that issuers refuse to add an AU if the AU has burned the issuer before in a big way.

That said, your wife has been paying the card off, and hasn't defaulted. I'd be very surprised if Chase refused your request to add her.
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt, SPG
May close or PC: Prestige, Arrival, BrooksBros
AA Platinum converting into Costco

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech

That's just the thing - she is actually very profitable to Chase. I could see Chase being uneasy about extending her MORE credit, but I would be surprised if adding her as an AU caused any problems.

Thanks Guys. They just sent her a new card with the Chip in it to replace her old Freedom card, and no balance chasing so far from Chase or Citi.
