I'm considering switching my main cards for a month or so.

I'm not totally set on the specifics, but it would involve spending more on Discover, Sallie Mae, and CSP. I could use a CLI on CSP, and spending more might improve my odds. Discover and Sallie Mae would give good rewards in areas where CSP is weak.

I'd still need an Amex for Costco, or to buy Costco Cash with a non-Amex.

ETA: I figure that some reduced activity with Amex might improve the flow of offers, which has slowed to a trickle since I've been a loyal customer. I might request a CLI with Discover soon, too.

Yeah, everything else I have around the house is Apple. This iMac I'm on now, iPhone 6 plus and an iPad mini, so the Apple TV makes a ton of sense. And the prices on 4K HDTVs nowadays is almost criminally cheap. $700 for a 50" inch Vizio on Amazon.
Wallet: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Chopping Block: Synchrony
Future: TBD

I added a Discover savings account. $100 for $10k deposit. I did have to create a separate ID and password.

0.95% APY beats Chase and Schwab which pay next to nothing. I know there are other banks and credit unions that pay more, but I'm more comfortable with Discover. I'm still keeping my Chase and Schwab checking accounts, just with smaller sums.

Sad. I have a mailer sitting on my desk for $500 from Chase for $15K in new money. Lol. .95% isn't that bad though.

Maybe I should close my Chase checking and savings accounts. I'd come back for $500.

Chase currently pays 0.01%, and Vanguard isn't as good as it used to be.

Etrade is doing a promotion. I might move some funds there. When I'm mostly in index ETFs, it doesn't exactly hurt me if I can't trade for a few days.

Maybe I should bring my Chase checking balance up to $50k, then go into a branch and ask to close my account if they won't give me $500. :)

Has anyone tried that?

Got an email Chase Hyatt offer.

50k pts, $1k spend in 3 mos.

It's more flexible than 2 nights anywhere that expire in a year. Practical for me, if not quite as potentially lucrative. Tempting.

That's practically 10 nights at lower level Hyatt. I'd apply for that.

I will apply. If I wait until shortly before the offer expires, though, I can "polish" my CRs by not letting a bunch of tiny balances report. I currently have balances on 6 of 10 cards.

I'll have an inquiry fall off EX, two accounts will reach 6 months of history, and 1 account will hit a year.

I can use more CL with Chase, so polishing things up might be worth it.

I jumped the gun on Hyatt tonight. Got the 30 day pending message.

I had a plan to get my utilization down. It's only around 6%, but is spread across 6 of 10 cards. A little more account and inquiry aging couldn't hurt, either.

I thought I might be booking multiple rooms (for myself and relatives...one of whom insists on nice hotels) on a two-night stay a little after Thanksgiving. I heard the (still somewhat general) plan tonight, saw there was a Hyatt in the area, and apped right away. My thinking was that I could earn a lot of points with the card and get reimbursed for most of my expenses.

Of course, if I was going to book with the card, I'd need to have it in my possession soon. That meant my application couldn't wait a month. Had I given it more thought, I would have realized I could earn almost-as-good rewards just with my CSP. And, if I'd wanted to use points to book the rooms, I had plenty of URs I could transfer. I didn't need the 50k urgently.

I had only gotten the 50k offer the day before, but had wanted the card for a while, only waiting because the public signup bonus wasn't very flexible. I'd also been in the garden for four full months, so figured I could handle a new account. My EX FICO was 748 a few days ago. My odds are still okay - they're just not as good as they could have been.

Maybe I'll get approved outright, recon successfully, or do a partial CL reallocation if necessary. Any of those are acceptable, but I'll definitely be annoyed if it's a flat-out decline with no room for negotiation.

I'm basically kicking myself that I had a good app "game plan" that should have lasted 35-40 days but I couldn't stick with it for much longer than 24 hours.
