[email protected] wrote:Thanks Kevin, yeah thank I will wait at least 6 months. Hope maybe to get a cli on Slate card maybe up to 5k limit first, but won't do if hard pull. that way I will have the 5k limit I need for Visa Signature on the MRP card. I also have 2 co-sign with my wife paid off loan accounts with Toyota for a 2006 Toyota Tundra & a 2009 Toyota Sienna van. we paid those off last year after 6 years of on-time payments. I am Jealous of my Wife, she has a Chase freedom visa signature with a 22k credit access, & she just applied for and got a Citi Diamond preferred with 8.8k Cl. Of course she has an avg. of 7yrs-7mths history no missed payments.

You don't absolutely need a pre-existing $5k CL to get Marriott (or other Chase Visa Sig cards). It's just a question of whether the issuer thinks you can handle one, and experience with a $5k line tends to suggest that.

The $22k Freedom is nice.

What made you get Slate and your wife get Diamond Preferred, though? Those are really meant as balance transfer cards. Did you get ads in the mail for them, and just assume they were the best you could get?

I have to say, when I applied for mine back in March I didn't think I had the qualifications for it, but was approved instantly. It has been an awesome card, I have used it moderately, 0 balance now and I used my free night when I went to Atlanta a couple weeks ago (you get one every anniversary following too). I signed up for the Marriott Rewards the day before too, so that wasn't a concern.

For those on here who have one, is 6 months sufficient before a request for CLI on it?

Carefulbuilder, I had an offer for the slate and just did not know any better at the time. My wife has a huge balance on her Freedom, so I helped her get what I think is a good transfer card since Chase won't let you transfer between their cards, or I might have got her that one.
Discover it $3.5K
BOA CR Visa Sig. $25K
Chase Freedom Visa $2K
Chase MRP Visa Sig. $5K
Cap 1 Vent Visa Sig. $13K
Citi HH Visa Sig. $10.1K
AMEX Plat NPSL
AMEX BCP $20K
AMEX Gold Delta SM $8K
BC AR + WEMC $3.5K
Cap 1 Spark Cash Bus Visa Sig. $4k
Chase Ink Cash Busin Visa Sig. $5K

I don't know what the absolute best BT offers are after Slate, and "best" depends on the importance of a low/no BT fee vs. having many months at 0%. Diamond Preferred's 3% fee for 21 months at 0% is certainly one of the better offers, though.

I might have to add Marriott Rewards to my list of cards if/when I move up north in the next couple of years.
Kohls: $300, Discover IT: $1.8k, Capital One Quicksilver: $2k, Amazon Store Card: $2.2k, Chase Freedom Unlimited: 3.2k, AMEX HHonors 5k

Why would the card be contingent on moving?

I would be able to make more frequent trips to Canada and thus have a reason to use the card at Delta hotels which has now been acquired by Marriott. I don't really see a reason to have it if I live all the way down here cause of the abundance of IHG and Hilton hotels.

I am curious to see how the Delta properties are categorized once they enter the regular Marriott rewards system. They look nice.

Delta is very nice. That's where I stayed when I went to Canada this past summer. The staff minus the waitress in the restaurant was excellent and ever so helpful. The room was very nice and a decent view of the river that runs right outside the hotel. Very affordable rooms. I could go on and on but you get the picture.
