Questions on authorized users and rewards

Postby DGenerateKane » Wed Sep 02, 2015 7:25 pm

I'm wondering if I add someone to a card, and they open their own account for the same card and add me, will we be able to utilize twice the rewards? I mean the limit most (all?) cards put on how much you can spend in the category to get bonus rewards such as Chase Freedom, Discover IT, Sallie Mae. I'm assuming yes since they are separate accounts, but I'm not positive.

Bonus caps apply to net purchases on each account, regardless of the number (or lack) of AUs. So you buying things as an AU earns rewards for the Primary (and not you), but it doesn't harm your ability (or your AU's) to earn rewards (for you) on an account where you are the Primary.

Things can get complicated, though. Having fewer cards with higher caps can make more sense - even if it means an annual fee.

They all count toward the same rewards because the rewards "account" is the same.
