AMEX gold premier and paying balance question.

Postby cameraguy84 » Sun Aug 23, 2015 12:00 pm

Hello ladies and gents..

Question, this is my first charge card with AMEX and I'm wondering what the best approach to this is.

I spend about $5500 on it this month... I believe I hit my limit on spending on it since I had a purchase declined and my "check spending ability" is zero.... based on their internet site.

I have no problem paying this off now (my bill closes the 28th).. any problem with just paying it off now? How long does it take for me to regain my spending ability with Amex?

i tried giving them a ring but they gave me a "Customer Service will call you back within 24-72 hours"... whatever that is..

Thanks guys and gals for any insight on this!

How long does it take for me to regain my spending ability with Amex? Should be within 24-48 hours; likely as soon as the payment posts. For my own payments, they almost always post within 24 hours.

As thom02099 said, paying now will free up your spending ability. It's been 24-48 hours since you posted, (If you made a payment,) have you been able to use the card?

With credit cards, the credit limit is released as soon as you submit the payment (meaning no need to wait for it to post or clear). Charge cards are a different animal, though, so it may be different there...
