Where do you still use cash/check?

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Fri Aug 21, 2015 5:53 pm

I use cash at my barber. I don't think he takes CCs. I've been paying him cash for a while, and I'd feel awkward making him pay the processing fees. I've only seen others use cash. I tip well but his prices are pretty reasonable to begin with.

I use cash for tolls when necessary.

I use checks for meeting fees with one professional association.

I used cash this week at a pharmacy that had their CC processing software down.

When do others use cash or checks?
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG, Prestige (retention)
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt
SD with activity alerts, might close: Arrival

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech, BofA Travel PH, Aviator Red

Dry cleaning lady doesn't accept cc only cash or checks and cos she's heavy transaction--I ordered checks specifically for her since I pay rent in transfer.

That's all.

Out of curiosity, how long has EZ-Pass been around?

Well I took $30 in change and put it on a gift card a couple of months back. Probably last time I used "cash".

Only use checks for HOA maintenance fee and haircuts. There are occasionally some other uses like paying contractors, paying the earnest money and option fee when making an offer on a new home, etc.

Rarely use cash as it just evaporates and I have no idea where it went.

Going on about 10 years, I wasn't driving before then so I'm not sure if it has been around longer.

ezpass appeared on he new york tollways in the late nineties. It's spread a lot since then, and many toll roads didn't get it, or some other form of electronic tolling, until later.

(Also, not a credit card thing, but there's a federal mandate for toll road operators to come up with a universal electronic billing system by next year.)

I specifically got E-Z Pass because I was sick and tired of having to make sure I always had enough cash for tolls around the NOVA & DC area. I agree it's the best thing ever; especially now that there are some E-Z Pass Only roads there.
