Credit card compliments from clerks/servers

Postby ScoreOnTheRise » Mon Aug 10, 2015 9:51 pm

I have to admit, I do enjoy compliments from clerks or servers on my credit cards. Of my cards, only my Chase Sapphire Preferred and Discover it cards have been complimented.

The Chase SP is my favorite and is by far the most complimented card I have. It's metal, heavy and well designed well. Once the clerk at the music score said, "Man, that's a weapon!" due to its weight.
American Express PRG [NPSL]
Chase Sapphire Preferred [$25K]
American Express BCE [$20K]
Discover it [$18.5K]
Barclaycard Arrival World MC [$6K]
Citi Diamond Preferred MC [$4K]
Citi Home Depot Consumer Credit Card [$3K]
Citi Best Buy Visa [$2K]

Yeah I got a compliment on my Discover IT in Walmart from the cashier one time. And the guy at the auto shop where I take my car for State Inspections made a comment on it when he saw it. But that was because it's an NHL card.
Kohls: $300, Discover IT: $1.8k, Capital One Quicksilver: $2k, Amazon Store Card: $2.2k, Chase Freedom Unlimited: 3.2k, AMEX HHonors 5k

Has anyone here ever gotten a special card design just to irritate other people?

BofA has an MLB variant of the Cash Rewards card. I could get one with the Yankees design, and use it as my everyday card next time I'm in Boston. I'd probably get a few comments.
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG, Prestige (retention)
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt
SD with activity alerts, might close: Arrival

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech, BofA Travel PH, Aviator Red

As tempting as that might is, if you did something similar down here you'd probably get shot. :D

LOL, Boston would not take kindly to that. Maybe try something a little less offensive like a Rangers card.

I got a few complements on the Freedom with the neon green border it had. More compliments on the CSP and BCP, but they also have the downside of a cashier questioning if it is a real card.
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k

When I first got my CSP, I did wonder if I would get questions about whether it's an accepted card or not. I find that clerks either barely look at the card and just swipe it, or they pause, turn it over and see the Visa logo, and proceed.

I'm not that big on compliments on my cards. But physical-card wise, my Marriott card (which I no longer have) hands down got the most compliments...because people seem to be wow'ed by black semimetallic cards. My Discover card has also received some compliments as well. But I got real compliments when I used Google Wallet on my phone to pay at mobile enabled terminals long before Apple Pay was a thing.

It's unusual with the clear/reflective/snowy design, but I don't think it looks very good. At least the card info is still clear after several months of regular use, while the raised letters on my less-used PRG faded more quickly from black to gold.

My new Citi Brooks Bros store card looks pretty neat....diagonal blue and black stripes with gold lettering...not that it would be unusual for a BB store clerk to see. I could see people with the MC version getting comments just for the novelty and nice looks of it.

I agree with you CB. I'm not a big fan of the clear or snowy designs either.
