I don't have any "status" cards, but I have gotten a few compliments on my Discover it (both copper and mix tape designs) and Amex ED. With the clear ED, I've also gotten a few double takes like "uh, ok...this is weird" before swiping.

Citigold brings it down to $350, Airfare/airline credit brings it down to $100, 4th night free at a $100/night hotel brings down to $0. Step to me. ;)

Exactly. Premium cards do have high AF, but if you get a card that offers rewards you will actually use, the AF is eventually cancelled out.
