I'm pretty happy with my approach of having a higher number of cards, but limiting the number of different issuers (or, more accurately, the number of card websites I need to log into) and putting most of my spending on three rewards currencies (MRs, URs, Discover cash).
I find enough use for Arrival (in the bonus portal and soon having a PIN card) to keep doing business with Barclaycard. I know I could easily do without Sallie Mae, but as long as I'm keeping Arrival, I might as well keep Sallie Mae open (for when it's my best Amazon card). Along the same lines, BCE occasionally has a nice offer.
Brooks Brothers is a different story. I could possibly use it again sometime in the future, so I'm not going to go out of my way to close it. Between CK and logging in to the issuer website once or twice a month, it's not much of a hassle to monitor for fraud. Either the account stays open and I use it when it's convenient, or I squeeze a little more history out of it before it goes inactive.
I do buy clothing there, but the "cardmember exclusive" deals seem to have become less exclusive.
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt, Arrival
May close or PC: Prestige, BrooksBros
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
